I told my cat “Merry Christmas” and she replied, “Reh-eh.”
Any minute now, Trump will be scorching her on twitter for not pronouncing all the syllables.

Trump’s Presidential Coin Is Just as Tacky and Egotistical as You’d Expect
Trump has changed the “challenge coin”:
—The presidential seal is replaced by an eagle bearing Trump’s signature
—The 13 arrows representing the original states are gone
—The national motto, “E pluribus unum,” is replaced with “Make America Great Again
Trump replaced the Latin phrase, “E plurisbus unum”—“out of many, one”—with his campaign slogan, “Make America great again.” That is on both sides of the coin. Plus, Trump’s name is also inscribed three times in the coin that is thicker than its predecessors and one White House aide described as “very gold.” Trump’s coin also removed the traditional presidential seal and put an eagle instead and the 13 arrows representing the original 13 states have vanished.
Although the “challenge coins” have long been used as part of the president’s official duties, aides tell the Washington Post Trump is likely also going to be handing them out to donors and at campaign rallies.
Some ethics experts are questioning the decision to include a campaign slogan on the coin. “For the commander in chief to give a political token with a campaign slogan on it to military officers would violate the important principle of separating the military from politics, as well as diminishing the tradition of the coin,” said Trevor Potter, a Republican former chairman of the Federal Election Commission.
In that case, a rules change doesn’t make a difference, as they weren’t following any rules in the first place.
You are probably correct that the trump version of repealing this rule will probably make the situation worse, anyway. I do still argue that in a small restaurant, owners taking a part of the tip pool doesn’t seem to be that bad a thing. They are usually production staff themselves.
In the end, as long as everyone is making over MW, and everyone is being paid what they have agreed to be paid, then I don’t really agree that the tips belong to any particular employee, they are revenues coming into the restaurant that should be directed by management to their best ends. There is little controversy over where the revenue from a customer buying a steak should go, that the revenue from tips cannot also be directed to appropriate ends is not something that I agree with.
In any case, I think tipping as a way of subsidizing the servers wage is a problematic tradition in the first place. I would rather run a restaurant where everyone is paid a reasonable wage, and tipping is a reward for exemplary service to be given to the restaurant and the staff for exceeding the diner’s expectations, not pretty much a requirement to make up for the still unaddressed issue of the server’s hourly wage.
I’m not really in disagreement with the trump rule as written, but if I were unilaterally in charge, I would add to it that it gets rid of the different wage for tipped employees. Everyone gets MW or better as a base salary, then tips can go on top of that.
Anyway, I suppose I’ve tangetelized enough. This thread is supposed to be about the things that trump does to piss us off, and I hate to be appearing as though I support him. If anyone is actually interested in continuing a debate on tips and tip pooling, I’d be happy to start or join a thread dedicated to that subject.
I never heard of a challenge coin before seeing these news reports. What is it?
“For the commander in chief to …would violate the important principle of …, as well as diminishing the tradition of …,”
The game is called fill in the ellipses. The above sentence fragment, even on its own with ellipses included, sums up well the effect Trump has on anything.
No surprise here, Trump lies about Obama’s holiday wishes when 'twas Trump “winning the war on ‘Merry Christmas’”.
By this point, in answer to the OP, can we just say: his very existence!
Or as we say in my country: “He woke up.”
“…and reached for his cell.”
Heh. If it weren’t for Pit threads, 75% (or more) of his Twitter output would be below my radar. My gripe with him is that he’s alive

That reads to me like advocating normalizing Trump. That we should not get angry at the things that would normally make us angry, because Trump may do even worse. It treats anger as some tool to convince people, when that’s not its only or even primary function.
Anger exists as a means to motivate people to action. It’s a desire to change things. That’s how it works at the individual level, and it’s also how it works in the public sphere.
I’d argue that maintaining a sense of proportion means doing the exact opposite of what that article advocates. It means keeping in mind what normal is, and not letting yourself start to think that things are not so bad simply because of what else has gone on.
And, on a personal note, I’m tired of this trend lately to tell people to stop being angry, The way to deal with people who are angry is to listen to them, not to chastise them and minimize their concerns.
Ditto. And that includes telling people to calm down. It bothers me that people are calming down, i.e., getting used to thump.
I’m certainly not getting used to Trump - but now and then it can be therapeutic just to laugh at him: Bad Lip Reading's Trump Christmas Tune Has Melania Saying 'Help Me' | HuffPost Entertainment
