It’s what you use to smoke Plutonian Nyborg.
In case you’ve really never seen Blazing Saddles https://youtu.be/upvZdVK913I
That’s the full scene, so it’s probably not safe for work due to the language. At least not without headphones.
Just as a point of information; the whole $100 billion in defense contracts with Saudi Arabia is 100% smoke. There are, as of today, exactly $0 (zero) contracts. Some $12.5 billion are in some level of negotiation but that’s about it. Some of those are extensions of existing support and maintenance deals - not new production or sales. From my 2nd cousin who still works in Foreign Military Sales.
Also, we’re still a couple of $ TRILLION behind in infrastructure repairs and improvements. These would be jobs and contracts here in the US. The phoney FMS contracts would not result in appreciable job growth (<.06% is the figure I’m searching for).
Just to expand on this (I worked in FMS for the US Army for 30 years), any purchase of Major Defense Equipment over $50M (IIRC) must, by law, be notified to Congress and that information is on the public record. Anyone can go to Major Arms Sales | Defense Security Cooperation Agency and see who has requested to buy what. Look at this back to December 2016 (I know Trump wasn’t in office then, but I’ll give him maximum benefit of the doubt), about $23.6 Billion in goods and services have been requested by the Saudis, $15B (65%) of which is for the THAAD system and another $2.0 Billion for either new or continuing Support/Training.
Now this doesn’t count Direct Commercial Sales by contractors directly to the Kingdom, but most of the major purchases do run through the FMS process in my experience.
I encourage you to browse the site above; it is amazing just what we sell (or attempt to sell–these are not contracts, they are ‘permission’ to offer them to the foreign buyer that can be stopped by Congress if they so wish) and to whom.
l live in a California sanctuary city, and I’m proud to report that for the roughly 27,985th day in a row, there is no rioting. I’ll keep everyone posted.
This is what frustrates me so much. I can’t even talk about Trump with conservatives, because it’s all just this sort of nonsensical bullshit. There’s no substance, no communication, and no honest answers. Just a wall of insults and accusations and falsehoods. I’ve basically hit a point of despair. I can’t comprehend how half the country can behave this way.
Because it’s easy. They don’t have to think. They just have to hate.
I used to vote Republican. It’s easy to be a conservative. And it feels gooooood. It’s all self-righteousness and self-aggrandizement. When everything is black-or-white, right-or-wrong, you don’t have to think about others; you know what’s best - what’s clearly right. Everything else deserves scorn or derision. Or fear - being afraid of things that aren’t obviously right was part of it, too.
One of the interesting things I saw during Politicon was during the Cenk Uygur v Tucker Carlson debate*.
A sizeable portion of the crowd started out booing Cenk, and would also boo anything critical of Trump.
But then Cenk criticized Trump for not following through on one of his campaign promises (to negotiate medicare drug prices), and also criticized Obama for failing to do the same. And the crowd went silent.
To them, politics right now is just about supporting Trump and hating “the enemy”. They couldn’t put this in the pro- or anti- trump box, so they didn’t know how to respond.
-
Yes, the debate was as one-sided as you would expect. Without Tucker being able to talk over his guest, he’s not actually a good debater, who knew?!
He came in with a softer tone than usual, which was good, but still his main tactic was setting up straw men.
But Cenk did a superb job, making his points clearly, asking Tucker straight questions that Tucker couldn’t answer, and never bothering to knock down Tucker’s straw man.
Cenk’s only stumble was the awkward way he pointed out that native-born citizens commit crime at a higher rate than immigrants…it sounded like he was attacking native-born citizens
bacon is now banned. This was his last post.
Apparently not everything is better with bacon.
Trump on Friday:
'Next thing you know, Democrats are going to want to give undocumented aliens a car."
Trump on Saturday:
“They want to give them Rolls Royces.”
Trump claims he has tons of photos proving that Comey and Mueller are hugging and kissing because they’re such good …friends.
Ooo, hyper-partisan gay-baiting lies! How nice.
Somebody filed a FOIA on this and the FBI reported no photos.
Comey tweeted that his wife is relieved.
Not even one…?
Mail bombs sent to CNN, prominent Democrats and critics of Trump; Trump, after “trying to be nice,” blames the media: Donald Trump claims media to blame for 'anger' after bombs sent to CNN, Dems | CNN Politics
Well - nobody would even know about it if it wasn’t for the media now, WOULD they! :smack:
DOJ asks the Supreme Court to rule that companies can discriminate against their employees on the basis of gender orientation and identity.
Ah, be nice to the “viktim” and his administration. He’s just seeking to make the country something dear ol’ dad would be proud of.
