Comparing apples to oranges, or in this case burger flippers to budget analysts. For the most part federal workers are in jobs the require at least a BA or masters degree, as compared to the overall workforce which includes many unskilled workers. Most to the unskilled jobs at the federal level have been contracted out.
Which brings us to the real victims of Trumps temper tantrum. While the Federal workers will be eventually get their pay back, there are hundreds of thousands of contractors who are likely SOL.
This is very old news … but I’m a very slow news-clicker.
“I know Putin, and I’ll tell you what: We get along with Putin,” Trump said at the 2015 FreedomFest libertarian conference.
“I don’t know Putin, have no deals in Russia,” the president wrote on Twitter on Feb. 7, 2017.
In 2015 Trump knew Putin but two years later he’d forgotten him? Alzheimer’s is a common condition among aging humans, are orange-colored subhumans susceptible to it also?
Cite for the clause I’ve bolded? IIUC after previous tantrums it’s taken a special act of Congress signed by the President to grant back pay to furloughed federal workers.
Might not Trump thumb his nose at these workers — mostly Dems — so he can brag to his base about how he’s saving money to build them a wall.
Aren’t contractors the people he’s got most practice screwing?
On one hand, dude can’t conceive of any woman wanting to have sex with him unless money is involved, and on the other, the people he really wants to fuck over are anybody he should in fact be paying.
Maybe his ideal woman looks like Ron Jeremy and carries a heavy toolbox?
True, but the shut down will only end with both sides agreeing to the final outcome, and the Dems are even less likely to vote for a budget that screws furloughed public employees than they are to give in on the wall.
I fear there’s to be no resolution soon, if ever. It seeped into the President’s pumpkin shell that he won’t be personally hurt, or even inconvienced, by an endless stalemate. He’ll continue to get his Quarter Pounders and burnt steaks with ketchup. Nobody’s going to switch his TV from Fox News to MSNBC, C-SPAN or the Learning Channel. He gets to keep his tweetphone. His all-volunteer army of slavering redcaps isn’t going to get any smarter, better informed or compassionate toward others. If anything, giving in— or even negotiating down from colossally stupid and unnecessary to merely wasteful and pointless— may lead some of them to nuzzle his unspeakable nether-parts with slightly less enthusiasm, for a brief moment. He has no impetus to give in.
There needs to be some kind of “lightning round” element to these government shutdowns in which all the players begin losing personal wealth, or maybe body parts, the longer it goes on. Otherwise it’s just hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens having their livelihoods affected, and who really gives a hot wet shit about them?
It’s all up to Senate Republicans. Trump is irrelevant. When Senate Republicans get tired of hearing from their constituents about the shutdown, they will pass a CR and override Trump’s veto. It all depends on the pressure on Senate Republicans; maybe Trump is immune, but they aren’t.
So now tRump says he can declare a national emergency to get “wall” built without Congressional improvement, and he may do so depending on what happens over the next few days. So. Can he do that? There will probably be legal challenges if he tries this, but will it take years to work its way through the court system and “wall” will already be built by then and everyone will just say “oh well” and kiss tRump’s butt some more?
Even if he was able to try this, he’d fail. Remember the Republicans and their “repeal and replace” Obamacare? It was all any of them would talk about for years. When they got the chance to do it, it turned out that no Republican actually bothered to plan anything, to craft any kind of replacement. Trump and his idiot Republicans have put the same level of planning into this imaginary thing.
This is spot on. Trump, and now the rest of the Republicans, are demanding 5 billion in funding for the wall. But if pressed for details, nobody would be able to specify where this wall is to be built, or how it should be built, or any other facet of this boondoggle. Hell, there are still unused border security funds from the last appropriations bill that haven’t been spent.
