I probably shouldn’t have laughed… <biting finger>
Like everything else that POS does - sick to my stomach and angry with my countrymen who supported and continue to support the Orange Idiot.
Thank you, D_Odds. Your response is clearly heartfelt, and I appreciate it.
Do you believe yours is the more common response among military folks? Or will they find a way to excuse this outrageous substitution of Trump’s warped sense of “justice” for that of their peers and superiors?
I guess what I’m asking is, do you believe this will soften Trump’s support in the military community?
The military is not and has never been monolithic in thinking, but it does get a lot of members from the red part of the country. Also I’m a long time out. Lastly, I self-select whom I associate with, and am very quick to dissociate with the Infowar/Breitbart types even before Trump came into the picture. And I’m not shy about telling someone why.
ETA: While the military does pull heavily from red states, it also pulls in a lot of minorities. And while no group is ever 100% one thing politically, minorities tend not to like Trump and the ever-worsening Republican values. Doesn’t take much thinking to understand why.
I would bet my house that any news radio or TV that is provided by the government to bases or posts is right wing media, and that only a small percentage of troops have the time or inclination to seek other sources. And if your only source of news is right wing media, you would be crazy to not support Trump and think Democrats are evil.
You’d lose your house.
E-7 is Chief Petty Officer. Pay grade restored = rate restored.
Damn straight he’d lose that bet. The Stars and Stripes newspaper carries articles from different political views, the Armed Forces Network carries BBC news, ABC News, CBS Bews, CNN, and Fox News, among others. Additionally, there are plenty of service memberd residing off base and thus have the same cable service as their neighbors.
So how about dropping the “military are ignoranmuses” shtick, Tony?
Mind you: that doesn’t mean he’s going to be assigned to a job in any kind of wishlist of his. The soldier which was part of la manada ended up getting discharged on account of “nobody is willing to take him” (well, officially it was an “early termination of contract”).
I enlisted during the Vietnam war, so what the fuck are you on about? I didn’t say anything resembling “military are ingnoranmuses,” and never have (and never will, since I don’t think it’s a word).
I have said, many times, that Trump is a moron, and it was my assumption that he refused to pay for “liberal media” on military bases, for two reasons:
-
he was recently reported to be in the process of cancelling government agency subscriptions to the NYT and WaPo. That I can verify: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/24/business/media/trump-subscription-new-york-times.html
-
I dimly remember George W Bush mandating Fox News on military news broadcasts when he was prez. That I cannot verify with a quick Google search, so maybe I’m remembering it wrong, or maybe it was a bogus story that I am remembering correctly.
I stand by my assertion that people too busy to research, and who only get their news from one source, are very likely to have their opinions strongly influenced by that source. It has nothing to do with their intelligence. So go peddle your patriotic outrage, which would not be at all out of place on an episode of Hannity, somewhere else.
And those on-post in US home soil will pick up the same radio and TV stations off the air as everyone else in that community, and can get varied papers and magazines at the Exchange.
TonySinclair, you still owe everyone your house. There has been no such mandate, now or then. Just admit that you were wrong rather than trying to move goalposts and save face.
So, how are we going to divvy up the house?
I don’t see any goalpost-moving in Tony’s posts. To me it looked like the message was ‘the Trump Administration may well have decreed a limit on the media available to active-duty military’—which seems perfectly reasonable in view of what we know about the Trump Administration.*
I saw no negative characterizing of military personnel–of their intelligence or anything else. Negative characterizing of the TA: yes.
*Here’s a non-paywalled source on the NYT story TonySinclair linked to, about the TA ordering federal agencies to stop subscribing to the NYT and Washington Post:
The article notes that it’s not just the loss of the price of the subscriptions at stake:
Jeez, what is it with you guys? I give my usual opinion of Trump. I get slandered (or libeled, for the pedants) with completely false words put in my mouth by someone with evidently poor reading comprehension. Now I’m told I don’t have the balls to admit I’m wrong.
I was abundantly clear that I was flinging out an opinion. I never claimed it was a fact; it was just an extrapolation of what I do know for a fact about Trump and his childish spite toward anything or anyone that disagrees with him, and in particular his demonization of mainstream media. Since this is the Pit, and not GD, I didn’t feel the need to verify it before tossing it out.
I have since researched it. I happily admit I was wrong. I googled the AFN schedule, and they do play MSNBC and CNN shows, along with Fox News. My new flash opinion is that Trump must not be aware of that.
Contact me at kissmyass at gmail dot com to arrange delivery (at your expense) of my house. I never said anything about the lot.
ETA: Thanks, Sherrerd.
It’s obviously a typo and you certainly did say something very much resembling “military are ignorant”. Your assertion that those who get their news from one source is correct. Your attempted substantiation of your assertion is simply asinine.
If that’s too much for you to grasp, here is a visual aid for you.
Seriously? Am I so important to you that it’s the crowning achievement of your life to catch me being wrong in a throwaway opinion that I spent about ten seconds thinking about before writing it?
ETA: Well, congratulations, I guess.
I’m devastated.
It’s not your opinion about Trump that’s at issue.
Mark Elliott, EconMobility:
That guy’s a serial killer and now he knows he has the President’s backing. Now he knows he can get away with it.
I figured Trump out .
To be sure Trump is waging a petty war of vengeance and stabbing at your heart. That’s all he is doing, along with getting his name on everything he can. That is the reason he does much of these bad things, things that bring tears to your eyes. Trump does not mind the support of the conservative right, but doesn’t care about them, but just how Trump can use them to effect his plan of revenge and becoming a god like leader of the world.
Don’t be mistaken, he doesn’t care about anything but himself and in that he wants to making you cry, it is personal, he is taking revenge upon you, and all those he perceives who have hurt him, which includes those on the left as people on the left have stopped some of his real estate projects, and caused other interference with his majesty and his plans. He will do whatever it takes to hurt you as deeply as he can - you are his target - not the separated children who are jailed and being sexually abused - he doesn’t care anything about them, not the drilling for oil off of the coasts and the potential environmental impact, not the loss of forests - he wants to hurt you personally.
He is a enemy of the human heart. It is only once we realize what he is doing, and what his motivations really are that we can come together to defend our nation from this devil from hell who is set against us.
