They can do a fair amount of damage. There’s been some level of logging activity around the area for decades. Some of it in Tongass, though roadless in that case. But timber has been a major industry for Alaska for longer than any of us have been alive.
As noted, the infrastructure already exists. It’s not like the entire state of Alaska is pristine, untouched wilderness. The equipment exists and this decision is basically redrawing lines on the map telling people where they can or can’t use it.
Pretty damn fast.
And some of those trees have been alive longer than our country. 
I neighbor emailed me this morning that “Trump, at his rallies, is now saying that doctors are lying about coronavirus deaths because they make more money by writing in ‘death by coronavirus’ in their death certificates.” I don’t have a cite, and I’m not in a position to search at the moment. I know there is no depth to which he will not sink, but…has anyone else heard this?

From what I’ve been able to tell, Trump has been claiming that for quite a while (that doctors inflate the Covid death count for the $$$). It seems that his real point is that the death count is being much exaggerated beyond what it really is. It goes right along with all his other attempts to downplay the problem.
I guess I knew it had to be true. But every day that man does something that gobsmacks me.
Chiming in- I heard a sound bite of Trump saying it on NPR Up First this morning.
But who are you going to trust, the President of the United States, or the President of the American Medical Association?

And when Trump says “doctors”, a lot of his followers hear “Jews”.
That is horrendous, and deeply ignorant. Foreign-born people in the US commit violent crimes at a LOWER rate than native-born.
It’s as arbitrary as declaring today a National Day of Sympathy for Victims of Left-handed Criminals.
Maybe President Biden will declare June 14 as a Day of Remembrance for COVID victims.
