The thing is that he need Haley and more people like her to run. As the last time around the dynamic of the 2024 primary is going to be Trump vs. not-Trump. The more not-Trumps he can get on the ballot to siphon votes away from DeSantis the better he’s going to be. So he may play only offer token objection to her announcement.
Of course at some level deigning to run against him probably seems like a betrayal so he’ll have to resist his natural urge to say nasty things about her.
There is a LOT of truth to this. I said elsewhere anyone claiming this will be a 3-4 person race with DJT, DeSantis and a couple others is likely fooling themselves. We have Haley in and I expect Pence, Hogan, Youngkin, Pompeo and possibly Christie, Sununu and maybe even Cruz and Romney to jump in at some point. This won’t me a small field. Maybe not as large as 2016 but not a handful.
