So, considering the dozens and dozens (and dozens!) of Trump related threads, I figured this was as good a place as any to rant (it is The Pit, after all).
Can we please, PLEASE, once and for all wrap up these interminable investigations and indict/arrest/charge this man with something? ANYTHING? So that we can start to move on with life? I am sooooooo tired of seeing stories pop up in news feeds with some analysis or prediction and breathless headline like, “Legal experts predict this time will be the smoking gun!” Oh, yeah? We’ve been hearing that since Mueller and before. Just stop already.
I have formed this theory that the Trump->Investigation cycle is a classic perpetual motion machine. Since his actions only take a moment (small input of energy), but an investigation takes years (large output of energy), before the investigators can make any progress they are confronted with additional wrong-doings, so the cycle is self sustaining.
When he took office, I hoped and assumed that his clearly criminal activity would quickly be exposed and acted upon, and that the consequences would not only remove him from office but cast lasting shame (yeah, I know) on the party that brought him to power.
As his administration endured, I remained hopeful that Mueller or the impeachment would, if not remove him from office, at least torpedo his re-election. But it took Covid to do that.
After Jan. 6, I thought surely an orange jumpsuit loomed in his future, and that the GOP would be crippled for their complicity.
Now, two-plus years later, none of that has happened. The GOP is worse than ever, and I honestly don’t think multiple indictments and convictions of Trump will do anything to weaken their hold on 49% of American voters. All a Trump conviction will do is – possibly – remove him from contention for winning the White House back next year. It won’t do anything to hurt another GOP presidential candidate, nor to weaken their ability to win both houses of Congress.
TLDR: I’m not sure I care anymore. The damage is done.
Well, his latest post on his failing website shows him holding a bat and a picture of Alvin Bragg in the next frame.
So that’s why I’m pissed at the disgraced former president today.
But I also heard a lawyer on TV say that it could be argued whether that should be seen as a threat or not. I find that surprising, but what do I know since I’m not a lawyer. Maybe it was just an invitation to play baseball after all.
If Trump never pays any price for any of this I will lose all faith in…pretty much everything.
I guess a law against committing stochastic terrorism would be misused by fascists (what wouldn’t?)—but it’s nice to dream that such a thing could be instituted and could discourage miscreants from putting out these calls for hits.
PAB is going to delay all he can with appeals, suits, and objections, and his last effort will be to claim he was unconstitutionally deprived of a speedy trial
