It shall be unlawful for any person who is under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce any firearm or ammunition or receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.
As I read it, the gunshop owner broke the law if they gave or sold it to Trump.
But Trump broke the law only if the gun were manufactured out of state. Again, gift or sale is irrelevant.
I assume the interstate commerce part derives from constraints on federal power in the constitution, but I don’t understand why that qualification applies only to the buyer/receiver.
It pleases me to think that trump is in trouble. Period.

I guess the real question is did he file his 4473 form to purchase the gun. If he did and (undoubtedly) lied on the portion of the form asking about his indictments, then he is guilty of precisely what the Republicans are screaming at Hunter Biden for doing.
Unforuntately, I can’t imagine Trump paying for anything so its unlikely that he actually did purchase the gun. Further even if MTG was telling the truth, given that his campaign deleted the video, they probably figured out that his purchasing this would be a huge problem and memory holed the sale and any associated documentation.
Still I would like reporters to follow up on what exactly happened because there is not scenario where Trump comes out looking good.
While still in South Carolina, Trump delivers another totally deranged speech.
Speaking at a rally in Summerville, South Carolina, Trump said “extreme regulatory attacks” limiting boat speeds of less than 11 miles an hour are making it hard on boating companies and fishermen.
“This is supposedly in the name of preventing whale strikes, but you have a better chance of being struck by lightning than hitting a whale with your boat,”
Going off on a tangent, the former president then suggested windmills pose a bigger threat to the safety of whales, saying they are causing whales to die “in numbers never seen before.”
“The windmills are driving them crazy. They’re driving the whales, I think, a little batty.”
So the Don is tilting at windmills.
Ohhhh…offshore wind farms using sonar to site the project. Okay, that’s not insane. I mean, almost certainly wrong in this case. But not totally insane as idle speculation.
The way Trump was phrasing it made me think his much hypothesized potential “sundowning” was rapidly accelerating and we might be looking at full-blown non-functional dementia long before we got to the election. I mean, we still might. But at least his bullshit came from somewhere this time.
