I didn’t bother reporting my pronouns given that my name and avatar are strongly presenting as male , but for the record I do indeed identify as he/him/his.
Exactly right. He said before the 2016 election that he wouldn’t have time for golf. And of course we know that he set a record than can never be beaten (except by another Trump four years, of course) for ‘number of days playing golf.’
The fact that he’s ever-so-slightly backing off the Retribution theme is surprising, though. I can see pretending that he will be “too busy” for just about anything, because the image of the Busy President is one that his fans would love. But they’d also love the image of the Vengeful President. Most of them equate vindictiveness with strength—there’s no nuance involved. For them, a vicious bully = A Strong Man.
So I’m very curious about this new turn. Why is he disavowing something his fans love?
Yeah, that’s probably it. He’s disavowing non-stop brutal revenge because he knows the MAGAts are only 25-30% of the electorate–he needs the remaining ‘normal Republicans’ to win the right number of states. And ‘normal Republicans’ are uneasy with the ‘all payback all the time’ concept.
It’s a preview of Trump’s semi-pivot to the general after he wins the primary: he still won’t talk like a decent person (because he has no idea how to do that). But he’ll avoid voicing the most overt expressions of his sociopathy.
I think we saw something like that in 2016, when many of his most incendiary remarks (like the comment about all the rapists coming from Mexico) happened when he was talking to the base in the primaries. He didn’t pivot to talking like a normal person for the general election, but he did tone it down a bit.
Thought by “toning it down a bit”, that means on a scale of 1-10 as far as comments being out of line, he’s going from a 15 to a 12.
Yeah. The news organizations will remain happy with the ratings they get covering Trump’s general election persona–he will remain “OMG” for everyone but the MAGAts.
He’s not really. He is just coming at it from a different angle right now - presidential immunity. He says if he is not given immunity, every ex-president from this point forward will be indicted for no reason at all, just like he has been. Because, of course, that’s only fair.
Well, really only if they are Democrats.
And yet, somehow, they have managed for 250 years.
Never doubted it, Buck. That riff was for …well, nevermind. I’ll have to take a look at the Dope parameters - I was unaware that one could declare for a team. Great idea. Perhaps I’ll make my avatar a scarlet…um…“M”!
Exactly like they did when he finally (supposedly honestly) admitted Presdient Obama was, in fact, born in the United States of America. His rabble still persist in spreading the birther nonsense.
I’ve just got to say that I love the phrasing in this article:
On Saturday, Trump thanked Gambino Crime Family mobster, informant, and serial liar Sammy ‘the Bull’ Gravano , who confessed to 19 murders and countless kidnappings, armed robberies, burglaries & 1000s of other felonies, for vouching for him, adding, “I hope Judges Engoron & Kaplan see this.”
