“Where’s her husband? Oh, he’s away. … What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone,” Trump said at his rally in Conway, his first visit to the state this year.
Michael Haley is deployed in Africa with the South Carolina Army National Guard in support of the United States Africa Command, his second active-duty deployment overseas.
Did he think “Gee, that “turning your back on NATO” sure played well when I was in office, I think I’ll double-down and actually encourage Russia to attack, and see how that goes!”.

The thing is that attacking Haley for this may sound idiotic and despicable but it works. Some percentage of his audience is unaware that Michael Haley is serving with the US military, so they think less of Nikki Haley.

No, the US Military is part of the Deep State. To MAGA folks the only “real” patriots are the ones who showed up on 1/6, or those that get in pickup trucks to harass minorities at the border, or who form white power militias in rural areas. That’s why his years-long contempt for the military hasn’t harmed his chances with his base one bit.
