I can’t see Trump crapping on yet another soldier’s grave having any impact unfortunately. It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. No matter what that soldier’s story is, Trump’s followers will find a way to turn her into the villain.
Oh wow, Vanessa Guillen. US citizen, murdered at Fort Hood. Army failed to address her complaints about harassment. Trump promised to pay her funeral costs? Of course he didn’t pay.
Fucking racist asshat. Won’t make a difference. Republicans are too conditioned to disbelieve or ignore anything that gets in the way.
I wish this goes viral here in Texas in the Hispanic community. There are Hispanics who’ve bought the “conservative” label and vote R. Some might reconsider if hearing this. Probably won’t change the outcome of the vote, but anything to break through the myth.
I’m watching Alex Wagner. I’m pissed because he has totally bamboozeled a few black voters in Pennsylvania. I’m sure he’s
bamboozeled just as many white, latino, etc.voters. In her interview with the specifically black voters, they were repeating all his lies.
@Atamasama made me laugh. But, I’ve done a ton of weed wacking in my life (there hasn’t been a year since I turned 10 or 11 without it, and some years very serious since I’ve lived farm and rural life) and I cannot see the wacker not getting tangled up in that long “hair”. I’ve tried to wack alfalfa that is ready to cut & bale and it’s impossible without serious work and the correct attachment. Trump’s “mane” would completely bind up any wacking device. I assume it must be done with a custom made Flowbee attachment that is 2’ deep. It can’t suck too hard though since all those implants don’t have deep roots.
The restaurant was closed. It was a staged event arranged with the cooperation of the franchisee featuring “customers” who were screened and selected ahead of time. The McDonald’s corporation itself disavowed any involvement.
I wouldn’t think public health code applies. In any event, I think the “employees” and “customers” would be thrilled to catch any cooties from their lord and master.
This Jon Stewart clip may be old news already to many (I don’t get cable or Paramount+ anymore, so I have to get my Monday evening Jon Stewart outrage a day or two later on YouTube clips) but it bears posting for those who haven’t seen it.
Stewart points out how the ‘smoke screen’ of how more laughable trump ridiculousness like talking about the size of Arnold Palmer’s penis is distracting the media from the really scary things trump is saying, like how the military should take action against ‘the enemy within’; and how Repub after Repub appear on the talking heads shows to try to explain it away by saying “trump meant ‘take action against illegal immigrants’”. Despite the fact that trump specifically calls out politicians on the left like Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi as ‘the enemy within’.
Stewart’s take on this-- contrasting the lewd, silly trump rhetoric that sucks up all the media oxygen with the dangerous, scary trump rhetoric, is some of the best political commentary on the subject I’ve seen (the specific part I’m referring to starts a little before the 7 minute mark):
Here is a Guardian article about it. After telling friends and family she had been sexually harassed, private Vanessa Guillén disappeared from Ft. Hood. Her remains were found two months later, dismembered and burned. The soldier prosecutors say did the deed shot himself when confronted by police.
The allegation appeared in an article in The Atlantic by Jefferey Goldberg. An attorney for the Guillén family denies it happened backed by her sister who added she voted for Trump.
I thought the story was that Trump promised the family that he would pay for the funeral, then later on, when he found out the cost, he said the line about how it “shouldn’t cost $60,000 dollars…” to staff members or employees, possibly in the White House. If that’s the case, Guillén’s family is in no position to say whether it happened or not.
That The Atlantic article has troubles. Two unnamed “people in the room” say Trump made those remarks.
Trump’s lawyer has statements from Kash Patel and Mark Meadows - two people named in the story as present. They deny Trump said the negative remarks about Guillen.
So while it is easy to want to believe that story, I’m not convinced. Without more evidence, it is questionable at best.
However, Guillen’s sister did confirm a bill was submitted to the White House, but no funds came from Trump. The Army and private donations covered the funeral expenses.
But according to the sister, when Trump asked about the funeral, she said the Army had already agreed to pay.
The family is outraged at the story being released right now. It’s a political move and it uses Vanessa’s name. They say it isn’t true, there’s no solid evidence it happened, and it traumatizes the family to make it about Vanessa.
