Hopefully white, male American players doing this so that there’s no grist for online mysoginy (nor Trump childishly threatening deportation retaliations).
Or airhorn. No, actually - a slingshot with some big ball bearings.
Donald Trump was booed and cheered at the US Open during the national anthem before Sunday’s men’s final. When stadium monitors showed him saluting as a member of West Point performed The Star-Spangled Banner, a burst of cheers sprang up and was quickly drowned out by boos, at which point the president offered a brief smirk. After the first changeover, he reappeared on the big screen and stayed up there for a while – causing fans to boo even longer until the camera cut away.
They booed him again, drowning out a smattering of cheers:

Then he had to watch as they cheered enthusiastically for The Boss:
The reception Trump received from the crowd on Sunday was in marked contrast to the enthusiasm that went up for the match’s other prominent attendees. During a changeover in the second set, the camera cut to Bruce Springsteen, who has been the target of a fusillade of Trump criticism. The crowd cheered deliriously.
Supposedly CBS obediently cut the audio altogether when the booing got well underway. (I don’t yet see video of that.)
As has been remarked, this White House request to save the feelings of President Snowflake has had the dreaded Streisand Effect. We’re all used to footage of Donald getting booed—-but this story will now be more widespread and will likely hang around longer than it would have done absent the censorship attempt.
The 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence will be next July 4. The Trump White House has already put key allies on the organizing committee and it’s expected that, as with the US Army 250th parade earlier this year, they’ll want to have a Trump-focused celebration. The US Government provided more generous funding for the states for the Bicentennial in 1976 than it’s doing now, but some states such as Oregon are OK with that, because it means Uncle Sam won’t be telling them how to celebrate.
