I don’t think these are bots, I think they’re MAGA lovers encouraged to review-bomb the site. Whether they actually saw the movie, who knows, but I suspect they showed up and watched with their mouths hanging open.

You’ve got to remember that these people have no taste. They think Greg Gutfield is the height of comedy. They love Kid Rock and Keven Sorbo. They think Trump is awesome. Every single one of them will eat this shit up.

The real, and uncontested, story is that Ilhan Omar’s marital history is a bit convoluted and unclear. She has had legal and/or Muslim ceremonial (recognized by Muslim society and jurisprudence even if not in accordance with secular law) forms of marriage and/or divorce with Ahmed Hirsi and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, both Muslims of Somali origin. And there apparently were some irregularities as to which one(s) she was filing joint tax returns with at various points in the evolution of her legal marital status.
As of 2020, Omar is married to Tim Mynett, who AFAICT is American-born and non-Muslim (and was a political consultant working on her campaign when they began their relationship, which has also given rise to some criticism). I presume that Omar at the time of their marriage was validly legally divorced from anybody she might have needed a legal divorce from.
AFAICT, conservative propaganda in 2016 began accusing Omar and Elmi of being siblings who married for some unspecified immigration status benefit to her. In fact, Omar was granted asylum status in the US with her family in 1995, when she was 12, and in 2000 at age 17 she became a US citizen. So by the time of her first marriage to Hirsi in 2002, she didn’t need any immigration status help from anybody.
Also AFAICT, there is zero reliable evidence that Elmi and Omar (or Hirsi and Omar, for that matter) are siblings. The issue is complicated by the lack of birth records for Somali refugees. Apparently there are claims in social media posts about Elmi at one point referring to Omar’s newborn child (with Hirsi) as a “niece”, but I have no idea what that may mean in their culture. Sibling marriage is forbidden in Islam, and I very much doubt that any responsible Muslim cleric would have sanctioned such a marriage.
Anyway, the salient points seem to be this:
- It is indisputable that Ilhan Omar has been a US resident since age 12 and a US citizen since age 17, years before she ever married anybody;
- It appears certain that Omar is now not married in any way to anybody except Tim Mynett, who is indisputably not her brother;
- There is no credible evidence that Omar or any of her husbands ever committed or attempted immigration fraud.
- All the Republican rumors and gossip about this issue seem to consist simply of endless chewing and re-chewing of the same insufficiently supported allegations inferred several years ago from some ambiguously worded social media posts of some of the individuals involved.
TL;DR: Ilhan Omar’s marital history has been somewhat eventful and maybe not free from some errors of judgement (though how on earth the thrice-married serial adulterer, sexual abuser and probably rapist Donald Trump thinks he’s entitled to call her out for that, I have no idea). But nothing about it has affected in any way her previously established status as a US citizen.
It’s the same kind of racist, fantastical bullshit as Obama birtherism.
