I’m 100% positive that this was the goal. They were hoping to find a slip of paper in desk her that should have been marked confidential is which would then prove that moving boxes of to secret documents to hide them from the FBI is no big deal, (not that they wouldn’t throw her in jail for 10 years for having it).
I’m eagerly anticipating the findings of the task force. Seriously. Like, what fantasies will they come up with to justify their existence? Somebody couldn’t put up a Christmas nativity in the town square?
Great idea! The task force could start with these assholes who slammed Bishop Budde after her inauguration sermon:

Moreno, who immigrated to Florida as a child from Colombia, said Budde’s plea for mercy for immigrants without legal status was an “insult to all of us who came to this country the right way.”
Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) said Budde, born in New Jersey, “should be added to the deportation list.”
Fox News’s Sean Hannity said Budde, whom he described as a “so-called bishop,” “made the service about her very own deranged political beliefs with a disgraceful prayer full of fearmongering and division.” Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire, a conservative media company, said Budde is a “fake bishop” and mocked her appearance.
“Who knew Satan wore granny glasses and stole his haircut from John Denver?” Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News on Wednesday that Budde had chosen to “weaponize the pulpit,” adding that her remarks “were egregious, and she should apologize to President Trump for the lies that she told.”
That should be enough names to start with, right?

In re Trump’s press operation:
I had to stop watching a Pod Save America after it showed a clip of the melon felon. The reporter fact checks him in real time but it doesn’t matter. The melon felon just makes up more crap on the spot.
What has pissed me off about this is many things. No one can fact check someone who lies. It’s like trying to prove a negative. I try not to watch much of him but I remember the “Bowling Green Massacre” so I will use that. KAC makes that up, whether intentionally or not it’s tough to tell, and it takes a lot of research to show that somewhere, something wasn’t called the Bowling Green Massacre.
And that’s the point.
By the time journalists, or anyone, has fact checked one thing, ten more lies have been spouted, they are onto their next made up talking point, and it all gets lost in the noise. Worse if anyone believes a lie or excuses it or explains it. That lie gets a life of its own and now that is taking up airtime, instead of something that is probably more important.
I don’t like conservative values, especially when the system they are trying to save is probably for white men or has different kinds of slavery baked into it. I also don’t understand it. Agencies like the EPA were created because companies couldn’t be trusted to do the right thing. Why do conservative think that companies would suddenly start doing the right thing now? Do they not want clean water, air to breathe, and land to grow food? I don’t understand how anyone can think this is a good idea, short or long term.
Okay, I needed to vent that.

Some of the right-wingers cheering the end of the EPA (etc.) may genuinely believe that the Rapture will be occurring any day now, so it doesn’t matter how fast we’re poisoning our air and water. Of course that was supposedly true of Reagan’s Interior Secretary James Watt, when he said
…and therefore no environmental protections were needed. Though that was over four decades ago; the planet has gotten a lot dirtier since then.
Others who lack that belief probably just feel confident that they and their families, getting rich by pleasing the big corporations (through gutting regulation), will be able to purchase as much clean air and water as they need. For them it’s all “I’ve got mine, Jack.”

That was my take as well. I mean, yes, some of our funding is rife with requirements to serve marginalized populations. As it should be. If we’re doing work in those communities, we should make sure we know how to serve those communities.

Our contract for this program is up in September, so we just flat-out don’t have any funding options for this program now.
The one silver lining is the state governor DID appropriate $50m to help offset VOCA cuts. This is a separate issue, but the difference to our agency is like 20% of the budget. Now we just have to see if it survives Congress.
This is why Gish galloping is done so often, particularly on the right. It’s one of Trump’s favorite techniques. It doesn’t matter that everything he says is a lie; if he says enough lies it shuts down your attempt to fact-check him in real time, and it’s even difficult to do it afterward because you end up with a TLDR situation that nobody is going to bother with.
The only really effective way to deal with someone who Gish gallops is to not allow them to talk, and when someone is POTUS that’s not an option.
Trump’s executive orders are just an extension of this; he has so many of them that even if most of them are illegal or impossible to implement, enough are going to get through that he gets some things accomplished. Where a responsible leader will carefully consider the consequences of an executive order, consult with legal experts and other subject matter experts ahead of time, and then issue them when they are deemed appropriate and good, Trump just squirts them out like legal diarrhea and whatever doesn’t get flushed away is a win for him.
Hell, even those that do get flushed are a win — they give him ammunition for his ongoing battle against the Deep State (as well as bolstering his claim to being the Most Persecuted President in History™).
Good point, even his failures give him ammunition for whining.

One thing that holds tremendous appeal for the MAGA folks is how utterly binary Trump is. He’s just a light switch – either “ON” or “OFF.”
This holds a great deal of appeal for simple people living in a complicated world where the overwhelming number of things are more like a whole wall of dimmer switches, each with a nearly infinite number of settings.
It’s the same thing that draws these folks toward the cartoonish simplicity of organized religion.
It also makes it easy for Trump to paint his entire life as an epic battle of good versus evil. And his painfully credulous followers just lap it all up.
