In this case he’s pushing a barrow of smoke.
I wonder if he is tilting at another tarriff windmill? From his “fact sheet”:
Kind of. It’s complicated.
He can’t just implement them at will, as he was doing before, but there are some ways he can put them in place. That article covers a few of them. Whether or not this latest announcment falls under that, or is bluster, I don’t know.
We won’t know for another year, as lawsuits and appeals wind their way up to the Supreme Court.
While additionally 45/47 is launching a new round of trade embuggerances because Canada had the temerity and capability to fight back. Wither the global bully.
And tariffs are collected and prices increase, then the tariffs are ruled illegal, returned as cash payment to the importers, and prices stay high for customers. So much winning.
Space under rework.
Who would have guessed that FREEDOM Fuels gas stations were a marketing illusion. Touted by IQ47, the $3.47 (47, get it) was a short term gadget. Prices are now back above $4.00 in line with all the other stations.
Yup.
In other news, IQ47 soon to be named, “Guardian of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait” in addition to his other titles and awards like, President of Vuvuzela."
Well, he’s always been one to toot his own horn…
DJT? Toot his own horn? That is so unlike this incredibly modest man.
Well, he has a lot to be modest about – if only he realized it.
If you don’t have a room to go to, then just act all crestfallen or something.
And now he’s back on the tariff train. From the New York Times, “The Trump administration will impose tariffs of around 10 percent on goods from more than 80 countries on Friday, its latest effort to put in place an expansive protectionist policy that has been repeatedly challenged in court.”
Trump said of the military members killed this week, “They are indeed great heroes actually. All of them said very strongly, ‘We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,’ so we’re going to honor them. And it’s one of the hardest things to do. For me, it’s one of the hardest things to do as a president. But, has to be done.”
That sounds to me like he is putting words in the mouths of dead people.
I do have to give him credit for not wearing a hat this time.
Secretary of War reduces Iran war dead because the Americans killed during the cease-fire don’t count.
…the Defense Department’s casualty website listed 18 U.S. service members killed in the conflict on Wednesday before the figure was reduced to 14 the following day. Three military officials told the Times that the change reflected a decision to exclude four troops killed over the weekend because their deaths occurred after Trump declared a ceasefire in April.
Agreed. I saw this on television in clip form earlier today and thought exactly the same thing.
It reminded me of an exchange yesterday during Hegseth’s Congressional hearing. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) called Hegseth a “failure” for his lack of leadership and foresight in relation to the Iran war. Hegseth tried to straw man it by claiming that Peters was calling service members failures, and tried to act facetiously indignant. Peters interrupted him very pointedly and reminded him that no, he was calling Hegseth a failure, not the service people that he was responsible for. He in fact is failing *them*.
Trump is putting words into the mouths of dead service people. And both of them are trying to hide behind service members in uniform to cover for their own stupidity and failures. It’s disgusting.
Good on Sen. Peters for pushing back. He’s absolutely right.
