What he said.
Same here. WWJD has taken on a whole new meaning these last four years. We now know that Jesus would kick you out of his country if you were coming from one of those shithole countries. I think they actually talk about this in Two Corinthians and I just missed it on my first reading.
FYI, here is an opinion piece by Nicholas Kristof in The New York Times (paywall warning) about how some evangelicals are supporting Biden. One of them (who is one of Billy Graham’s grandchildren) says, “The Jesus we serve promotes kindness, dignity, humility, and this president doesn’t represent our faith.” An evangelical minister says of Trump, “an immoral, amoral sociopathic liar who functions from a core of insecure malignant narcissism.” And yet, the piece says, Trump will probably get the majority of the evangelical vote.
If I were a fundamentalist Christian, I don’t think that I would necessarily view Trump as the anti-Christ, but i would certainly view Covid-19 as a curse sent by god for the evils of Trump The book of judges is chock full of examples where Israel gets punished for having a bad leader in charge. The fact that it is Covid-19 that is leading to his being removed from office clinches that matter.
Oddly enough a quick search of the web doesn’t indicate that anyone is considering this possibility.
Think they would if Clinton was president?
Religious fundamentalists and evangelicals have always had a proclivity towards rah rah flag-humping patriotism and have always had an alliance with conservative Republican. Many of them have no problem with authoritarianism, as they’ve embraced authoritarian churches and they adopt authoritarian family structures, all rooted in an underlying belief God has a plan for everyone and everyone should live their lives according to that plan. Personal autonomy and critical thinking are discouraged and often blamed on the devil. They are engaged in a war against secular liberalism.
These churches and many of their leaders often own businesses and many of them amass empires. Fraud is rampant. The leaders are all in with Trump like they’ve never been with a politician before, not only is he a Republican, he’s a fellow con man.
And all that God’s plan stuff leads to some twisted logic. Remember, their God really doesn’t like critical thinking, so he frequently tests people to make sure they aren’t doing any. That’s why God’s messenger on earth is a gluttonous adulterous blasphemous narcissistic coward. God wants to make sure his followers aren’t thinking too much and, as Mike Pence knows, God works in strange ways.

He is not the Antichrist because he is really the embodiment of the 7 deadly sins 11. That is a horse shit of a different color…
I’ve been saying since 2016 that many evangelicals, anxious to bring about the end times, think Trump is the anti-Christ. I just think he’s an orange criminal cult leader, but maybe that’s the same thing.
Not against you, but what I noted in the quote:
Whoa there, where that “11” came from? Board bug?
Probably no bug. If you scroll up to your post that he mentioned you’ll see the [11] marker after your link to the deadly sins showing that as of now 11 people have followed that link.
The rest of @BigAppleBucky’s text shows that he didn’t use the Discourse quoting feature to put your content into his post. He just highlighed a bunch of your post, including your byline on the top, used the browser’s Ctrl-C copy, then Ctrl-P pasted all that text into his post and indented it using the block quote or > feature.
At least he correctly pushed the reply button to your post so his post included the backlink to yours at the upper right.
Ah, that makes sense, carry on…
I’ve had the antichrist thought more than once. Just look at all of the accelerating disasters: plague, fire, flooding, storms. I find it ironic that the Religious Right sees these as signs of general immorality, rather than seeing their own immorality and departure from Christian values.
IANA religious, but ISTM the general outline of the story of the Pharisees is broadly similar. IOW God sent Jesus to tell them, as the mainstream priesthood of the time, that they were going / had gone totally off the rails and missed the point of their own religion. They were Not Amused at this news.
Echoes of last time. Apparently humans are slow learners.
I still prefer the Exodus 32 comparison:
31 So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”
33 The Lord replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book. 34 Now go, lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
35 And the Lord struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the calf Aaron had made.
“They have made themselves gods of gold” pretty much sums up the Republicans and their Evangelical brethren.
I remember an article by Isaac Asimov where he talked about how it was a human trait to blame floods and pestilence on your neighbors but lightning bolts were universally seen as a sign of divine displeasure on the one struck – he’d been pretty well singled out.
Then Ben Franklin invented the lightning rod people eagerly applied them to their houses and barns. This was condemned from the pulpit as “thwarting God’s will,” so church steeples didn’t get them. You can guess the result.
After a few years the objections were dropped.
Heh.
That’s hilarious.
[Music from Jesus Christ, Superstar ]
Ev’ry time I look at you
I don’t understand
Why we let the things you did
Get so out of hand
We’d have managed better
If we’d had it planned
Now why’d you choose such a backward time
And such a strange land?
(Don’t you get me wrong)
Don’t you get me wrong
(Don’t you get me wrong, now)
Don’t you get me wrong
(Don’t you get me wrong)
Don’t you get me wrong
(Don’t you get me wrong, now)
Don’t you get me wrong
Only want to know
(Only want to know, now)
Only want to know
(Only want to know)
Only want to know
(Only want to know, now)
Only want to know
Donald Trump
AntiChrist
Who are you
What have you sacrificed?

Very nice. Poor fish.
Reminds me of the old joke about the 2 golfers.
One guy has a terrible swing and his balls go everywhere. Always with a frustrated “God Dammit! Missed again!” when the ball goes whereever.
The other mild mannered guy keep chiding him about not taking the Lord’s name in vain. “Now now you shouldn’t curse like that. Tsk tsk.”
This schtick repeats enough to establish the joke.
Soon enough clouds form overhead, a lighting bolt issues from the sky and incinerates the mild mannered guy.
And out from the clouds booms a deep loud voice: “Dammit! Missed again!”.
Those fish are toast! And lightning, apparently, is hard to aim.
That’s my guess. He’s a useful tool for installing their theocracy. They’re not going to derail that.
