To be honest, I probably honestly do have pretty severe emotional problems, and I’m not saying that as a joke. But, I am trying to better my behavior by not clogging up the main forums. I did start this thread in the Pit so as to not spam up the main forums. I don’t know what would make me happier. If the Internet was more like real life, it might be nicer. In real life, unless you’re at a protest, politics usually doesn’t seem so extreme. Most people just want to live and get by. Perhaps I should just try to not read any political threads on here. Outside of those I’m not a bad poster. I also really need to see a psychiatrist when I have the money to afford one.
I’m fine with addressing gender, and cultural expressions in media.

One of my favorite recent movies is Rogue One. Not a single white male in a leading role and I enjoyed it nonetheless, very much so. A movie I’m excited to see is the remake of Aladdin, which has a cast which is 99% people of color. I don’t really care what color an actor is, nor do I want to see people of color represented in a negative light in a movie. While I like Gone with the Wind, mostly because of the love story and because I’m a Clark Gable fan, I’m happy we’ve moved beyond the time when black women were presented as “Mammies.”
My issue isn’t with Blacks, or People of Color in general. It’s more with White Liberals. In my experience, it’s White Liberals who talk more about race, in a negative dark way, than People of Color do. I’m not saying we should never talk about it. But the way in which its spoken about can be incendiary.
No one outside of the Klan or perhaps Stormfront would deny certain groups - Blacks, Native Americans, Jews, Asians, and to lesser extents, Hispanics, the Irish, and the Italians - have been mistreated in society. No one would deny that there are still instances of institutional bigotry and injustice, such as gerymandering or Voter ID laws or police brutality.
But, while we’re not perfect yet, we *have *improved. What irks me is when White Liberals, or White Progressives to be more precise, act is if we’re worse than ever. What irks me is when they say America has never been a great country. A country can be great, and greatly flawed, at the same time, and that’s what I feel America is and has been. I love my city (NYC), I love my country, and I just dislike when people think that rather than fixing the problems we have, we need a complete overhaul of the system.
I also get riled up over the calls for Socialism. Elements of Socialism, like the New Deal had, are fine. But hearing people condemn Capitalism (even in regulated form) as the greatest evil known to man angers me. It’s like such people chose to forget Stalin, Mao and the Khmer Rouge.
I wouldn’t want to live in any other time but the present. My anger comes from the feeling that the Far Left automatically assumes things about me because I’m a white guy. Others here have said that’s not the case, but while people here may be well-intentioned, that’s not how it comes off in the media. It comes off as more like, if you’re a white male, you’re racist and evil until proven innocent.
I’d just like to live in a present where racial relations are better. Where a sense of equality can exist. Real equality. And that’s I feel where Progressives and I differ the most, on what real equality means.
I go Jekyll and Hyde on this stuff though. It’s a problem I have. I can be very reasonable and want the best for the country, and other times I am just consumed with hate. It’s a problem. I say it not out of a desire of sympathy; it is simply is how it is.
