So a few colleagues of mine are passing the time by playing the Wheel of Fortune inspired game Before and After where you combine common phrases into one (ex: Sieze the Day the Earth Stood Still).
So, someone says “Resistance is futile Japan.” I was quick to point out they had mistaken futile with feudal, but instead of quitting while I was ahead, I went on to explain that feudal Japan was called so because it was a time in which rival clans of samurai were engaged in battle across the country. Wanting to wipe the contentment off my face, someone else challenges this explanation by saying that the time period in quesiton was called feudal Japan because the type of government in rule was Feudalism. A quick Google search confirmed that I was indeed wrong, and the fact that I was right about the futile/feudal mistake was long forgotten.
Heh, you know I was going to say something very snappy and witty, in response to the thread title, but I think you did a pretty good job of fighting ignorance…
Little did both of you know that the actual term was “family feudal Japan” and referred to 16th century Honshu, ruled beneath the fearsome Dawson shogunate…
You have disgraced yourself, and by extension me, by your actions. I have taken a poll of 100 random samurai loyal to me, as to what your future actions, towards atonement, should be.
The OP sounds kind of like the intellectual equivalent of trying to make a big, triumphant exit by slamming the door behind you, only to find it’s a swinging door.
