I’d like to directly discuss the conflict between:
The longer Trump and his associates are outside a courtroom, the more emboldened they and their allies become. It is important that they face consequences to help stave off future coup attempts
…and
It’s important that the investigation into Trump and his associates doesn’t look politically motivated and has the best possible chance of conviction; otherwise, they will become emboldened. Just because you aren’t hearing anything doesn’t mean there’s nothing to hear.
It’s come up again and again in threads about the justice system vs. Trump, and I thought a place to hash out this issue in particular, alone, would be useful.
Well having Trump as a future President is a disaster not just for the US, but the Western World (I live in the UK.)
Ofc course it would be good for Putin and North Korea.
So the investigations should be going full steam ahead, but not be brought to court prematurely. (We don’t want a criminal getting off though a poorly-prepared prosecution.)
That’s really it; we want this thing to be as well described, non-partisan, and ironclad as it can be made. Both in the Congressional hearing stages, and any subsequent DOJ prosecutions. Rushing to try anyone is going to run the risk of potentially NOT being so ironclad.
The only thing looming over them is the potential loss of the Democratic majority in the House in the midterms. It would probably be good to get the hearings wound up and let the DOJ start indicting people before that happens.
It’s important because right now there is no “truth” and an obvious criminal that used to be POTUS is running around. His cronies are claiming some fictional “executive privilege”.
We are either a country where no one is above the law, or we quickly go into crony capitalism and fascism. Put the asswipe, his family, and his enablers in jail, or the new normal is all losers don’t accept the election and prod their base to come out with guns a blazing to set things right. You choose?
