How is all this Republican overreach going to play out in November 2014?

Not their race. Their generation.

That’s not really what Democrats celebrate- they (we) celebrate increased diversity in general.

Are we to believe that your prediction is better? Based on your track record with predictions?

We get a new people every generation here. Nothing could be more American.

Then I must be in the field.

What the world needs now is a new John Brown.

Political diversity is an awfully nice excuse for lionizing ignorance, encouraging deluded priorities, and advocating foolish, unsustainable, destructive policies.

Try again and pick a winner.

Or under the cornfield, as it may be.

Not really, unless you just like violence and chaos.

You know… This maybe deserves it’s own thread, but let’s say for a moment the U.S. was broken up into fifty countries, with each state being it’s own country, which one would you rather move to on a purely economic basis?

A blue one.

Okay, but *which *one?

Well put. A very large number of moderates who might once have said “I’m an Independent” now feel quite comfortable saying, and thinking, “I’m a Democrat”. Republicans have completely given away the ‘middle’, conceded it to the Democrats. The middle, where valid concerns are taken seriously, debated and handled, is where most Hispanics, other ethic groups, and most women, live.

Well, the top 5 economic powerhouses of the blue states (I’m going to be stricter with blue state here and say Democratic governor as well, not just 2012 EC result) are California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Washington. Note that this skips Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and Michigan and in most of those states the legislatures have gone batshit crazy. I would think one of those would generally be a good choice. That depends, of course, on what exactly you do for a living and where available jobs are.

Gotta admit, that defines my journey.

Fifteen years ago I was a no party independent who voted for either party depending on the candidate and the positions. But over the 2000s I was so turned off by the republican party and its behavior that I joined the democratic party, became a candidate and worked for the party recruiting candidates and arranging fundraisers. In short, I got pushed not into being a democrat but being a DEMOCRAT.

Here’s that noted Liberal, Ted Cruz, on the future of the Republican party in Texas.

But I agree we shouldn’t depend on the* Tejanos* to save us. All the other Texans (black, urban, female) who have good reasons to vote Democratic need to continue to do so. And get out the vote…

I’d stay in Florida. Don’t make no difference, thim dam furriners is gonna keep on retirin’ to here. Pensions drive the state economy. Don’t matter if the checks are made out in in Yorkies or Texapesos or Calibux.

Well, I’m not expecting much when you have people like Steve King (R-Iowa) going around telling the caucus that it shouldn’t pass because the Democrats will get votes for it:

Way to put the party above country, or even humanity, Steve. Keep up the good fight.

Jut out of curiosity do the words “permanent Republican majority” or “K-street project” ring any bells?

If they had done immigration reform when Bush tried we’d be bitching about president McCain right now.

I beg to differ. Republicans are notorious for voting as a bloc. Obama’s stimulus + the ACA got what- zero GOP votes? If the Democrats want less diverse opinions, why do they embrace such diverse groups. If you looked at the crowds at the Democratic convention, you saw a nice cross section of America. In the Republican convention, it was vanilla soup. Here’s how to make a model of GOP ethnicity: take an Olympic size swimming pool. Drain out the water. Fill it with vanilla wafers. Toss in a handful of Oreos. That’s about the right proportion.

I’ll believe Republicans welcome diverse opinions when I see one of them say Rush Limbaugh is wrong about something- anything at all. Or when they say publicly that Obama has a good idea and they’re in favor of it.
