How is each side going to react to defeat in November?

If Trump loses - as most expect - his supporters will probably not do all that much. Sure, they’ve been tweeting 2nd-Amendment solutions and all that, but the likelihood of violence is low. What are they going to do? Violence won’t stop Biden/Harris from getting inaugurated.

But a Biden loss is far less expected - and it would come as an even bigger shock to the D’s than Hillary losing four years ago. The progressive wing would gain strength, of course; they argued that Biden shouldn’t have been the frontrunner just like Hillary shouldn’t have been, and 2024 would see a much more progressive D than this time around.

Many Republicans buy into conspiracy theories. I imagine if Biden wins they will claim fraud. They might not accept the victory, violently. Trump might not accept a Biden victory as well. They may wonder why ballot box intimidation and messing up the postal system did not work. They may “refuse to believe” that the Democrats could win certain states (eg if the Democrats win right-leaning swing states, such as North Carolina, or Arizona).

Anchors who announce a Biden victory might get death threats, people might shoot up pizzerias, and other such nonsense. (Dr. Fauci is already getting death threats, and he’s not a politician.)

A close Trump victory would bring out complaints about ballot box intimidation and mailing issues. The “blue shift” is a potential problem, where Trump wins close states, but as the mailed ballots come in, Democrats find themselves ahead… several days after networks call the swing states for Trump.

Assuming Biden wins and the Democrats hold onto the House, I think it depends on who ends up controlling the Senate. If the Republicans do, I don’t see much of a reaction, as they know that nothing gets done without them, and it may come down to which side can survive a government shutdown the longest. If the Democrats do, and the first thing they do is get rid of the filibuster, we have to wait and see how Wall Street and Big Business react; it may come down to companies choosing between (a) raising prices and/or cutting costs (including outsourcing more jobs) to cover any higher taxes (for example, Hollywood isn’t going anywhere, and it doesn’t have to as long as it can raise ticket prices), (b) leaving the country altogher, or © waiting it out and seeing if the Republicans can get a foot back into the door somehow.

Well, if Trump loses, I expect him to actually challenge the election results in the courts, declare victory, and maybe even try to hijack the electoral college. He’s all but telegraphed that he won’t concede a loss. But assuming we get through the electoral college with a Trump loss, I expect the Republicans to remain bat-crap crazy. Trump will be gone. But Trumpism will be alive and well. I don’t think the Republicans will become a normal party again until they lose 4 POTUS contests in a row.

If Biden loses, I expect him to concede. Then, the Dems will hopefully maintain the House, and remain at least relevant in terms of legislation.

Can I ask you nice to knock off the ridiculously overconfident complacency? Please?

Well, when Hillary unexpectedly went down in flames in 2016, the Democrats never accepted it. Witness the fictitious Russian Conspiracy and all the other acts of denial that have gridlocked our nation for over three years. When Trump likewise sends Biden to the dustbin of history, I expect they will howl just as wildly and just as illogically.

Look how Trumpies reacted to masks. How do you think they’ll react when their balls are about to get cut off?

The one that resulted in the nearly 1,000 page Volume 5 that was just made public today?

It is undeniable by anyone other than shills or idiots that Russia did engage in a systematic attempt to put a thumb on the scales on behalf of candidate trump. An open question remains if there was inside assistance from trump’s campaign with that Russian effort, how much, the exact form that it took, etc, etc. Others have articulated on that matter far more capably than I am able to do so. But to deny that said effort existed is, at best, revisionist history and at worst…
