How is this going to end?

I can’t see a functional way to break up the USA, though I think it’s a good idea.

I really think this is going to end when a natural disaster shows, visually and viscerally, that the libertarian / anarchic view of government is just not working. A large hurricane or a wildfire taking out a city will make us realize we need SOMEONE larger than ourselves. It would have to be bigger than Katrina or the recent LA fires, though. And I fear we’d just wind up with a weak federal government, with actual government handled by some horrible corporate feudalism.

Instead of taxes, you’ll pay $25 / month to Coke for access to water, $50 / month to Kaiser for access to a 911 line, $100 / month / kid to HarperCollins for school, with a multi-child discount and extra fees optional for tutoring, fines for discipline issues, etc. Taught by AI, of course, because teachers are too expensive.

I’m kind of in agreement here. We’re starting to see some cracks even in deep red states like Arkansas who Trump essential said, “Drop dead!” to us earlier this year when we needed aid for a natural disaster. On the other hand, it’s going to have to get truly, awfully messed up before Trump supporters change their mind. I’m wondering how we’ll do next time we’re hit with a pandemic, especially if it’s worse than Covid.

That has happened many times already, most recently in Texas.

Which, clearly, was the Deep State violating Our Glorious Leaders EO forbidding ‘’‘natural’‘’ disasters.

Well I started the clock running with Hurricane Katrina.

So how close are we to the locusts?
:face_with_peeking_eye:

It may end well for…us. But the red states will not suffer as much as we think. Democrats will get a small majority and resist Trump 2026-2028. Trump will do as much damage as he can. He has only revenge left then.

Not well. Not well at all. Horrifically worse, in fact, given how much of the infrastructure that helped to ameliorate COVID has been dismantled, trashed, and thrown onto a garbage heap.

Oh, definitely. But whose side are they going to be on? I see massive desertions happening, with a significant number joining the resistance.

Even if there was some sort of organized resistance, instead of a loose conglomeration of bullshitters waiting for someone or something else to rise up out of the blue to solve their problems for them, the number of deserters, who have been trained to play “follow the leader” since day one (and most even before), will not even be insignificant.

…and how much the anti-vax, anti-mask, pro-disease infrastructure was built up. Day One of a new pandemic, every MAGA out there will be talking about how “This is the new COVID scam!” They’ll blame it all on a Deep State plot, and talk about how ivermectin cures everything, even radioactive cancer-ebola.

Good. I hope they all put themselves on a vigorous regimen. Don’t forget the wonders of a bleach enema.
