How is trump still a viable candidate for president? Really, how?

I’ve heard the “Michelle Obama is secretly a man” thing before. But the adoption angle is a new one on me. There has to be some racism involved in that right? So if we claim that the Obama’s daughters are not actually their biological children other racists will believe it because “all black people look the same”. I suspect there’s more than a little bit of that going on there.

FWIW, I think Sasha looks exactly like her paternal grandfather. Malia is the spitting image of Michelle.

Clearly they had them genetically engineered. Just before they adopted them, I guess? That is how that works, right?

With genes extracted from aborted fetuses.

I know, its beating a dead horse but have you heard this? How anyone could listen to it and still think he is fit to be anything other than a patient or inmate is beyond me. And, as bad as his ramblings are to listen to, reading the transcripts make my head hurt. (Sorry, no transcript for this one.)

Trump (to Congress) on his attempts to ban TikTok when he was president: “It’s a hard decision to make, so you make it.”

Yep, that’s the kind of leadership that the US needs in this modern world.

It seems to me that Trump is still a viable candidate for president because the Republican Party has ceded power to a rabid plurality of their members.

And so, yes, donald trump will be the Republican nominee.

But I think he will lose bigly.

Sure, he’ll get an appalling amount of votes. But he’s never won a popular election, and he’s not about to change that.

He’ll go down hard.

And he’ll take the GOP with him.

With his daughter in law heading the RNC, they won’t invest in other republican candidates. So down ballot voting will take a beating.

That’s in addition to the numerous nominal republican voters who will stay home in disgust.

donald truly has no vision for the future of this country. His entire schtick is limited to his grievances.

And while he will be able to delay most (but likely not all) of his trials until after the election, it will still be the case that he is a tainted candidate with hundreds of millions of dollars of debt and felony charges hanging over his head.

Add to that the fact that he’s likely to get hammered with the female vote (both due to his general misogyny, no support from his wife while he campaigns, and his role in overturning Roe).

There truly is no realistic path for him to win.

And once he loses, and doesn’t have the chance of becoming president to protect him, he will end up in prison.

I so profoundly hope you’re right.

What’s scary though, is that all reputable polls before the 2016 election showed him behind, without a realistic chance of winning…but he won.

In 2020 he was also behind in all reputable polls before the election…and he did lose, though he got more votes than any sitting president before him.

Now, most reputable polls are showing him a couple points ahead. “Within margin of error” and all, and there are several months to go before November, so still time for things to change. But the fact that he even has a chance at all is just insanity to me.

“And when you get to that fork in the road, take it”.

That’s not what the polls said. Poll aggregators were saying that Clinton had something like an 80% chance of winning. That gave Trump a 20% chance, not that Clinton was sure to win.

That’s saying that if you run the election 80 times, you get Clinton. But 20 times, you get Trump.

Maybe on Earth-1, Clinton won. But here on Earth-2, the chips fell the other way.

I hadn’t heard that interview. Most interesting is that the interviewer basically asks him if he was paid off. And Trump doesn’t even bother with showing outrage.

I said polls showed that trump did not have a realistic chance of winning in 2016, not that he had no chance. So I don’t think what I said what entirely wrong. Just a minor quibble though.

Any version of Earth in which trump wins the Presidency is definitely Earth number 2 :smirk:

Political ridings in the USA are organized and gerrymandered to emphasize the rural-urban split more than anything else. This is why elections tend to always be fairly close between Democrat and Republican voters.

Boy howdy, good old trump is talking about how it’s going to be a blood bath if he loses in November. Now, in context, he meant the auto industry.

But he always goes to a violent scenario, doesn’t he?

It’s really starting to eat at me that we are in this situation. I feel very let down by the people and/or laws that should have protected us from this man in the first place.

How did Truth Central (Troth Senshul) become worth serious money? I thought trump only started it because he was banned from Twitter at the time. It was dismissed as a low rent Twitter. Now the sale of it might help bail him out. Buying it for more than it’s worth could be money laundering, right?

It was reported this morning that Trump is considering rehiring Paul Manafort as his campaign manager for 2024.

That would be interesting.

Gotta have that direct line to the kremlin.

Why doesn’t Trump just skip the middleman and make Putin his campaign manager? I’m sure Trump would love to have an election in November like Russia just had.

Oh, I’m pretty sure he already is.

I don’t think Northern Piper’s cogent response was a “minor quibble.” This is an important misconception I’ve been trying to refute (here and elsewhere) for four years and counting.

I one-in-five chance of something happening is big. If you have five jugs of milk in your fridge, and I tell you that one of them is pukingly rancid, will you grab one jug at random and start chugging down?

(And Biffster alluded to a main reason why the chances of a Clinton popular victory/Trump electoral victory were much higher than the chances of the opposite occurring).

I posted the GoFundMe campaign on my FB page (an image, not the link). My Trump cultist friend commented:

No doubt, he will be just fine. Not because he is the messiah as you say, but because he was chosen by Him

There are… what? 30,000,000 die-hard Trumpists out there? I suspect that Trump is a viable candidate because many of them truly believe that Trump was appointed by God.
