This has happened literally dozens of times now! When I log on to the internet, my home page has been replaced by the xupiter.com home page. How do they do this, and how can I stop it from happening?
Go get the free program SpyBot and install it on your computer then run it. It should fix the problem.
I don’t know how to explain the “how”…
As for the how, xupiter.com uses a javascript similar to [url=http://javascript.internet.com/miscellaneous/set-home-page.html]this* to set your home page to their site. Then they install a bot on your system to make sure it stays that way. They are evil evil evil.

Thanks for your advice about the dangers of spyware. I think most articles or advertisements don’t stress the REAL pain in the ass problems spyware can be. Until 10 minutes ago, I never thought it was necessary to download anti-spyware programs because ALL the information about it mention how websites can track everywhere you’ve been on the 'Net. That didn’t bother me because I really didn’t care if someone found out my last site visit was “The Naughty Medieval Wench Dungeon of Delight”.
I hope the Search and destroy program eliminates what I think is a REAL pain. - Automatic pop-ups. Pop-ups are bad enough as is but now they’ve become unbearable because (at least for me) they can pop up ANYTIME I’m on the computer. Or sometimes, I might leave the computer for 10 minutes, come back and 10 pop-ups have loaded !!! I hope Search and destroy will curtail that kind of Internet crap.
Again, thank you.
Thank you very much, folks. That SpyBot seemed to do the trick. I also went to my program files and deleted everything connected with Xupiter.com, so that may have helped, also.
I have noticed a dramatic decrease in pop-ups and banners, so SpyBot helped there, too. Thanks again.
You can also reduce home page hijackings by not using Internet Explorer, and instead, use a different browser.
For example, I use Opera and suffer no hijackings.
