how late do you sleep on the weekend?

I had to be up this morning much earlier than I’d normally get up on a weekend, and I stopped by Starbucks at 9 am because I figured that coffee was my only hope of sustaining functional consciousness. I was appalled to see so many people in there, just hanging out - reading papers, using laptops, and so on. I just wanted to grab the nearest person and scream, “WHY AREN’T YOU IN BED RIGHT NOW!?” while burping in their face.

So I started thinking - am I freak for sleeping in late on the weekends? I’m one of those people that doesn’t set an alarm if I don’t have to get up, and will easily sleep until 11 or noon at the earliest; it’s not uncommon for me to make it until 2pm on a Saturday or Sunday.

How late do you sleep? Why?

Weekdays I am out of bed at 5:30am. Tournament weekends with my students are usually even earlier. When I can sleep in, it is rarely past 8:30-9am. Any longer than that and the cats start prodding me to get my lazy ass out of bed. Not to mention the wife!

I’m a college student. I have to get up every weekday at 8:30 for class (and time to get some breakfast and coffee beforehand). I often go out and/or drink on Friday and Saturday nights, so I often sleep in past 10 on the weekends. Sometimes all day. It just depends. In high school I worked 20+ hours a week and had hours of homework a night, and still found lots of time to go out and also be lazy. Only needed 5 hours of sleep a night. Not anymore. I’m in bed by 12 on school nights.

I’m 34, single, no kids/pets (IOW, no reason to wake up before I want to). On weekends I’m usually up around 10am, depending on how late I was up the night before. If I didn’t crash until 2am or after, I sleep a little later. I used to sleep past noon on weekends when I was in college and shortly after, but I don’t remember the last time I did that (without having been up until sunrise) – I don’t even like waking up much past 11am these days.

Lucky for me, I have flexible hours at work, so the earliest I get up during the week is a little after 7:30am – usually more like 8:00 or 8:30. I still stay up later than I should, but it’s not too traumatic to go from weekend to weekday.

I rarely sleep past 9:30am. I’m usually up by 8:30am.

I usually try to get up by 11 AM on the weekends, but if I’ve been up particularly late, or I’ve had a hard week, I indulge myself by sleeping until I feel like it.

On weekdays everyone in the house is out of bed by 6-7 AM.

Weekends vary depending on our activities. On average, we’re probably all up by 8 AM most weekends.

If we’re camping, or if we have some kind of activity like a hike or a bike ride, we could be up as early as 5 or 6 AM on a weekend.

And if we’re out late at a bar the night before, we could sleep in until almost noon.

This weekend was the first (and quickly looking like the last) in about 6 months or so I’d guess that we had absolutely nothing planned. We were up and out of bed just before 8 AM.

I have slept in until 1 or 2 PM before. I end up feeling like shit, achy and groggy with a headache, for the rest of the day.

I suffer from insomnia, and to help counteract it, I make myself get up at pretty much the same time every morning. On weekdays, I get up around 6. On weekends, I wake up at 6, and will sometimes stay in bed until 6:30 or so, but I’m almost always up before 7.

However, you wouldn’t catch me at Starbucks early on a Saturday morning. Saturdays are for staying at HOME, catching up on e-mail and news. It’s rare that I leave the house before noon on Saturdays, if I go anywhere at all.

I rarely sleep any later than 7.30 on weekends. On Saturdays I like to get to the shops early. On Sundays I go to 9.00 mass. On weekdays I usually get up at 7.00

Mon-Fri wake up time is usually somewhere between 8 and 9. I’ll often set my alarm for 10 am on weekends, but if I have the leisure time to sleep in, I’ll often sleep until 11 or 11:30. Of course, my favourite thing to do on weekends is to get up at 11:30, have breakfast and goof off until 12:30, then get back into bed with a book and have a nap until 2-ish. Somehow that breakfast break assuages my guilt for sleeping so much. It’s a nap, not sleeping in until the afternoon!

I usually get up at around 5:45am on weekdays and 6am on weekends, unless I am really busy with uni, in which case I get up at 4am or 5am. However, I usually go to bed between 10pm and 10:30pm.

6:15, even if I have nothing to do. It’s a curse. I need five hours of sleep a night, and yet I’m lazy and unproductive. Try procrastinating an extra three hours a day. Not easy, I assure you.

On weekends I usually sleep until 10 or 11; this morning I slept even later, until 11:45am. My wife, given the choice, will sleep even later.

The strange thing is, no matter when we get up on the weekends, whether at 8am or 11am, we never manage to leave the house until 2pm. You could practically set your watch by this. It’s odd.

I’m with you VCO3.

I routinely sleep to noon or 2 on weekends. I stay up late just because I can. Sometimes doing stuff, sometimes not.

I’ve been known to sleep until noon, get up, go lie on the couch, then take a nap until 2 or 3, then try to do something productive and fail miserably.

I hate having to get up “early” on weekends. Ruins my sense of relaxation.

I’m usually doing part-time work on the weekends that has me getting up even earlier than my full-time job does. On the days that I have off, I usually get up by 9 or so.

6:30 a.m. 7 days a week.

If I have nothing on on the weekend I will stay up stupidly late, just because I like to, and sleep until whenever I get up which could be anywhere from 10am to 2pm.

I prefer 10-11. Any later and I feel like I’m wasting the day. Any earlier and I feel like I’m waking up with the sun. This Sunday, for the first time in ages, I didn’t wake until 1.

Even on a backpacking trip I usually wake up between 8:30 and 9. I don’t think those “sunrise alarm clocks” would work for me.

I get up earlier on weekends. School-free days are precious and should not be wasted  I set my alarm on weekdays for 8 am but wake up around 7:30 on weekends on my own. For some reason my body knows it’s the weekend and wakes me up earlier.

On weekdays I am up between 5 and 5:30 a.m. on weekends it’s usually between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

My wife, on the other hand, rises between 6 and 6:30 a.m. on the weekdays and on the weekend is seldom up before 11 a.m. and has been known to stay in bed until 1, 2 p.m.

I enjoy the early morning on the weekend. There is a gentleness and quiet that I will just drink in standing on my porch.
