So, it’s been about five years or so since the current incarnation went up and there are plenty of people who have been around since the beginning (or thereabouts). There are also newer members who have made great contributions and form a core group of posters.
So, how long before this message board thing gets old and you decide that perhaps you have better (or at least different) things to do? Kids, a new job, whatever comes along and diverts your attention or you just get sick of it all.
Well, I tend to post very irregularly, but I suspect that I’ll be around for quite a while. There’s one mailing list that I’ve been on checks calendar for a full decade last October!?! So obviously if I like a place I tend to stick around.
I’ve wondered about this. I mean, it has to end someday, but when?
I hope the boards stay around, because it will be pretty damn funny for those of us that are here now to sit around and say, “Remember this thread from 15 years ago?”
It will be weird to be 50 and look back and think, “Wow, I wrote that when I was 23.”
That’s assuming the Reeder stays in business and the hamsters have great memories.
Obviously, I can’t see into the future to tell you exactly how long I’ll be posting here, but I don’t see any reason I’d stop posting, unless the price of membership goes way up.
I come here to read about people’s opinions on current events, and to get and give advice, to hear people’s stories, whether they be mundane and pointless or life-changing. Those are things that the board will never run out of, and so I know I can continue coming here for years and always find something interesting.
And yeah, a new baby or a big change in my life may have me posting less, but I’d probably be on here posting about the new baby and adventures!
I’ll probably be here until my membership comes up and I don’t have the money to renew or some totally new interest happens. I’ve come and gone over the past few years, I don’t see that changing all that much.
