How long have YOU been ignored on the web?

Or maybe it’s just ME.

Since I discovered the www in 1976 I’ve purchased domains and hosted forums and blogs, and social applications in an attempt bring folks together for pleasant and civil discourse.

Dozens of domains - scores of apps and to date not ONE person has registered and joined in with me. SHEESH!!! Talk about being the Invisible Man??

Is it me or have others had the same experience?

Don’t feel bad about not responding - you’ll join BILLIONs who have not.

I’m sorry.

The who and the what now?

Thank you - every little bit helps

The latest is [link removed] Come July or so I’ll try something else.

I’m sorry but OP sounds hilarious. Sorry again, I’m sure you’re not the only one…

What’s “OP”?

No you didn’t.

I know it was 1996 but it wouldn’t let me edit

Well I went to your site, so you’ve had at least one visitor.

Take this in the spirit with which it is meant, but perhaps you’re duplicating what is already available, or perhaps the subjects are not overwhelmingly interesting to a broad spectrum of internet users, or perhaps your presentation doesn’t “hit the spot” with people.

As a Brit I won’t be visiting your site again for obvious reasons.

But good luck anyway.

Uh, it would appear that you might want to frequent some of the existing forums before you try to make your own.

There’s something sort of sad about message boards or forums that have few or no visitors - I’d never join one, though. If I join a message board, it’s to communicate with a lot of other people, not just one or two people. Works better if you have a willing group first - I started a yahoogroup almost 10 years ago, which has since morphed into several yahoogroups. The original and one of the offshoots continue to be very high traffic but it took years to build up, and although I rarely tend to them any more (I set up co-owners and moderators) they hum along nicely. How it started though, was I was on another group focused on a subject I was quite passionate aboout, several members had a different perspective on the topic, so I started mine to cater to that perspective. So at the start, I already had a pool of willing members and it grew from there.

As far as blogs go…generally, in order to get visitors to your blog you have to work quite hard at it - by visiting and commenting on other people’s blogs and generally having a high profile. Quid quo pro - you leave a message on someone’s blog, they reciprocate, rinse and repeat. I’m not a facebook person, but I think it works the same way.

Also you need to have a focus or topic that will draw people in, of course.

But pssst, john1939 - welcome to the Dope, where you can have pleasant and civil discourse with teeming millions. Several of whom will respond to you.

Added - john, your site offers nothing that doesn’t already exist in billionty-seben other places on the www.

Also I am surprised that you’ve hosted forums, blogs and social apps for 16 years and you don’t know what “OP” means? How many other forums have you joined? That is a very, very basic and common acronym. (Original Post/Original Poster.)

I stumbled on to THIS one just yesterday and it DOES seem what I’ve been searching for - no obscenities, ugliness, and such (that I’ve seen so far). Perhaps I’ve found a place and can stop trying to create one.

THANK YOU all - got to go get ready for my volunteer work. See y’all this afternoon.

He doesn’t look purple but could he be a troll?

I had 2 sites since 2000…
A Record Company, www.violetrecords.com and a Personal one, www.jamicat.com, to share my music and videos for free, and sell CD’s.

That whole endeavor turned into a joke.

Thanks Napster, Youtube, Myspace, ect…

I’m not independently wealthy…nor can I write code more than old-html. :frowning:

It’s 12 years later and it doesn’t matter anymore.

Sounds like you need to fire your publicist and start a new marketing campaign. I hear viral videos are all the rage these days.

Thanks to (most) all of you - good advice, I’ll take it.

Your suspicion credits me with having more savvy than I (clearly) posses.

Well fuck my cunt and call me Shirley… I’ve had this place figured all wrong for 10 years.

Where did you get the information that Lincoln had only two people on his White House staff? Haven’t heard that before.
