We just filed our tax returns via U.S. mail a couple of days ago. We should get a bit of money back from the Feds - just enough to take a nice three-day weekend, we reckon.
So I’d like to make reservations somewhere at about that time, but I can’t remember about how long it takes to get a refund. Does anyone know how long it takes?
Hmm, IMHO doing anything that depends on getting the refund back by a specific (short-term) time period is a bad idea. You could theoretically be audited and end up owing money and so never get the refund at all. I’d wait for the chicken to hatch if I were you.
Or even just “pulled for review”. That happened to us last year when the Feds had some questions about how much child care we were claiming. We had to dig up receipts and cancelled checks and send them in to be reviewed by a coupe levels of people. No big deal, it only reduced our refund by ~50 bucks, but it delayed the check by a few weeks. As we were counting on the money for out Comic-con trip, I was getting nervous.
It can depend on how you are requested that the refund come to you. Direct deposit into a bank account is the fastest way, getting a physical check cut and sent to you is the slowest.
Direct deposit might get your refund to you weeks faster than asking for a physical check, IIRC.
