Applied to University of Texas and BYU accepted at both.
On my “list,” I had, in no particular order, Peedmypants University (the school I now attend, name changed so as to prevent my obsessed fans on the SDMB from stalking me), Yale, Harvard, Colby, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Vassar, and the University of Rhode Island. I submitted the Common Application to those schools that accepted it. I applied Early Decision to Peedmypants, my first choice. I was sort of torn between Peedmypants and Yale, but decided I liked Peedmypants better due to the higher level of freedom in the curriculum. The first one I heard from was URI. I put off finishing the other schools’ applications (even those that accepted the Common Application had supplements), and luckily heard from Peedmypants before I had to start the others. So I guess I applied to maybe 5 with the Common Application but never completed the supplements, actually completed 2 applications (URI and Peedmypants), and at least one of the schools, maybe Bowdoin, had its own application that I would have sent in, but didn’t after I heard from Peedmypants.
“Peedmypants”… I’m so puerile.
OK, it would have been one of the deans then. And it’s not that I think I was rejected because of my interview – my high school grades were somewhat uneven, and I was probably shooting too high – it’s that the interviewer came across as unprofessional. (Among other things, as soon as I told her my SAT score she said I would definitely be admitted, which turned out not to be the case. Later in the interview, she asked me a question whose answer was, as far as I could tell, a matter of opinion – and immediately turned chilly and downright hostile when I gave what turned out to be the “wrong” opinion.)
All this was ten years ago, and it certainly doesn’t reflect on the school now; she may not even have been typical of the faculty at that time. But if she was, I think I had a lucky escape.
If I can be nosy and ask, what school in PA. I start at Shippensburg on Monday.

MsRobyn -
I’m at IUP…and my classes start on Monday too. Bit nervous about the whole thing, but not too bad. Good luck to you.
Three. My dad told me it had to be in-state. Fortunately, the state was Virginia and we’ve got some good ones here.
First choice: William and Mary (Wait-listed)
Second choice: University of Virginia (I went there, but they were the last to get back to me)
Third choice: Virginia Tech(They accepted me right off, but I wanted to hear back from U.Va. first)
Once my dad saw my bichin’ SAT scores, he said I could apply to Princeton (my grandfather’s alma mater), but by then it was a little late in the game. Considering the so-so grades I eventually got, that might have been for the best.
I applied and was accepted to three colleges: Guilford, Goucher, and UNC-Asheville. I chose UNCA for a number of reasons, not least of which because they offered the best financial aid package.
I don’t regret it for a minute, though my mom was dismayed that I chose a public state school over two private colleges. The professors at UNCA were terrific; the school has a very good reputation; and, because it was a public school, I encountered a more diverse student body in terms of age, class, religion, political beliefs, etc. than I would have at a private school.
I applied to three universities:
Webster University, St. Louis (Accepted w/ scholarship, now attending)
Miami University, Oxford, Ohio (Accepted after being waitlisted)
University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa (Accepted w/ scholarship and into honors program)
As soon as Webster sent me the letter telling me I was in, I sent back my letter of intent. Iowa’s offer was nice, but I wanted to attend a smaller school. I applied to Miami because my dad heard from someone that it was a good journalism school. Turned out he was thinking of Ohio University anyway. Oh well. Webster was my first choice and I’m very happy with it.
That would be Rensselaer. Not only did I go there, but I was something of a native.
I went there for a year (applied and was accepted to RPI, UPitt, McGill, SUNY Stony Brook, and Carnegie Mellon), and was “let go” after the most dismal performance by a freshman in RPI history.
But now I’ve changed my tune and am applying to a number of UC schools, and am reading this thread with interest.
Cool! My SIL (aka soccerbaby) and her cousin are both at IUP. Good luck to you, too!

I only seriously considered 3 colleges, two accepted me. I guess I could’ve tried a few places, but I can always transfer.
7: Columbia (nope), University of Chicago (waitlisted but I didn’t accept my place on the waitlist), UC Berkeley (accepted), Boston University (accepted, I start next week!), George Washington University (accepted), NYU (accepted but not enough aid), SUNY Binghamton (accepted)
