How many countries have you traveled to?

Let’s see:

USA
Canada
Mexico

Japan
Taiwan
Korea
Hong Kong (both pre and post handover)
Macao
Philippines
Vietnam
Malaysia
Indonesia
Singapore

Tanzania

UK (England and Wales)
Germany
Italy
The Netherlands

I live in the USA.

Visited:
Mexico
Spain
Portugal
Germany

I’ve gotten within a few yards from Canada many times, but never crossed the border.

I somehow managed to leave off Hungary and Vatican City. An even 40!

Not too many. Would be very few if I didn’t have the Army foot the bill on most.

USA: live and grew up.

Trips up through high school:
Canada
Ireland

Army:
Germany, stationed there for two years
France
England
Switzerland
Austria
Belgium
Luxembourg

Post 911 deployments:
Cuba
Kuwait
Iraq

Other vacations:
Dominican Republic
Bermuda

I’ve seen Mexico from El Paso but never went. Touched down in a couple of airports but I’m not not counting those countries.

Belize
Guatemala
Peru
Grenada
Latvia
Lithuania
Estonia
Ukraine
Russia
Germany
UK
Netherlands
Kosovo

Macedonia
Serbia
Indonesia
Singapore
Malaysia
The Philippines
Kenya
Israel
Palestine, West Bank
Jordan
Iraq
Afghanistan
Yemen
Turkey
Kuwait

I love traveling, but, not too many for me yet. I don’t count flight commections or quick drive-throughs. And I note if I’ve driven {d} or ridden a motorcycle {m} in that country. As of July 2017 it’s been 32 countries. None since then.

USA
Mexico

aaand that’s it.

And I only include Mexico because on one family trip we drove over the southern border, turned around, and came back without ever getting out of the car…specifically so we could say we’d been to a different country.

23, it looks like. Amazingly, I’ve never been to Africa. If you include airports (which we shouldn’t), that number might double.

Oh–Add Austria to my list.

Madmonk–it’s “Czech Republic” now.

US
Canada
Mexico
Bahamas
Dominican Republic
Chile
Ecuador
Australia
New Zealand
Fiji
Iceland
UK
Ireland
Spain
Portugal
France
Belgium
Netherlands
Denmark
Sweden
Finland
Germany
Switzerland
Austria
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Estonia
Poland
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Hungary
Slovenia
Croatia
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Greece
Turkey

Also Russia and Vatican City, if you get to count places where you didn’t spend the night. So, 38 to 40.

Not nearly as many as we want:
USA (home)
*the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands is a US commonwealth, but since few people have even heard of it, I want to give it an honorable mention. Home for 6 years.
Japan
We were abandoned by our airline in the Seoul airport for several hours, but we never left it.

Netherlands–home for 3 years, but we could not travel behind the Iron Curtain, so:
Germany (when it was West Germany)
Belgium
Luxembourg (drove through)
France
Italy (and Vatican City)
Spain
Austria
Switzerland
Leichtenstein (drove through)
England, Scotland, and Wales
Denmark (rode a train through)
Norway

I have never been to Canada or Mexico. I hope to travel into Canada someday, if we ever get to move home to Indiana.

22:
USA
Canada
England
Gibraltar
Spain
Andorra
France
Monaco
Luxembourg
Germany
Switzerland
Leichtenstein
Austria
Italy
Vatican City
Greece
Turkey
Yugoslavia (when it was)
Lebanon
West Bank
Jordan (changed planes at Amman)
Malta

22-24:

United States
Canada
Bahamas
South Korea
Australia
China
New Zealand
Mexico
British Virgin Islands (Overseas Territory)
and similarly Netherlands Antilles
Turkey
Greece
Italy
Vatican City
Germany
Switzerland
France
Portugal
Belgium
Netherlands

United Kingdom/Northern Ireland
Ireland
Denmark
Sweden

And all but 1 U.S. States, 2 Canadian Provinces, and ~6 Mexican States so pretty intense driving in North America.

That is all to say, not enough!

Not so amazing. I never made it to South America nor most of Central America, my only foray south of the US border being Guatemala.

Hmm, this should be interesting…

  1. UK (have been to all the home nations)
  2. Ireland
  3. France
  4. Spain
  5. Italy
  6. Andorra
  7. Estonia
  8. Portugal
  9. The Netherlands
  10. Belgium
  11. Rwanda
  12. DR Congo
  13. Israel
  14. Syria
  15. India
  16. Nepal
  17. Thailand
  18. Laos
  19. Vietnam
  20. Cambodia
  21. Indonesia
  22. Australia
  23. Canada
  24. USA
  25. Mexico
  26. Cuba
  27. Costa Rica
  28. Panama

Not going to count airport stops.

Best food: Vietnam
Worst food: also Vietnam
Best partying: Cuba
Most scenic: Vietnam
Best volcano: DR Congo
Friendliest: Nepal/Ireland
Best beaches: Panama

USA
Canada
Guadeloupe
Martinique
UK
France
Monaco
Spain
Italy
Vatican City
Netherlands
Austria
Morocco
Venezuela

Not counting my native USA and countries in which I never left the airport:

Canada
Mexico
Dominican Republic
Israel
Brazil
Ecuador
Germany
India
The Philippines
The Netherlands
Belgium (While I was visiting the Netherlands, I took a few day trips and bike rides to places in Belgium. So I don’t know if I can count Belgium as a place I’ve really visited.)
The UK (I spent 19 hours in Manchester. About half of that time was spent sleeping and showering, and a couple hours more were devoted to getting to and waiting in the airport. I spent the rest of my time wandering around and eating things, though I’m not sure that’s enough to really say I’ve visited the country.)

So, that’s either 10, 11, or 12, depending on how you count.

That’s 35. We will be adding Egypt, Romania and Bulgaria next year for sure. Maybe some more.

Not counting my native US:

  • 4 that I’ve spent at least a couple nights in
  • 1 that was a daytrip only
  • 2 of the airport only type. One of those there wasn’t an airport though. Getting off the plane for refueling still meant smelling the air and seeing the terrain surrounding the airbase as I walked across the tarmac.

Not bad for never having had a passport.
