Well, this thread title was just to get the right folks here…
what I really want to know is how are you, as a Grandparent, coping with
grandchildren who do not live near you?
I’ve just found out that my 18 month old Granddaughter (along with my Daughter and her husband) will be moving to the opposite coast. Since my Granddaughter absolutely owns my heart, I’m devasted.
I need coping strategies, and I need them FAST.
I know I can count on the SD community.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, HillKat…I can really feel for you on this issue. I live about 1200 miles from my son/daughter-in-law and my only grandson. I would like to be a larger part of his life, but it is impossible for my wife and I to move closer.
Our contacts are limited to visits…and that isn’t sufficient!
But on a positive note, you might try to maintain more contact by doing things like taping books on a minirecorder and sending the tape and the book along to her. So you will be reading her bedtime stories in absentia. This requires the cooperation of her parents, who will need a similar recorder, and who will need to hold her and turn the pages as they play your recording of the book.
So think of ways that you can still be there…
My wife and ( daughter who lives out of state) have a logitech instrument whereby they can video themselves while they are speaking on the phone…not too expensive. Thusly they can see each other while they talk and watch the 8 mo. old baby at play.
