It may have been NBC news that I saw a piece on Cee-Lo Green’s Fuck You! where they said a large part of its appeal are the words “fuck you” in the chorus.
“Fuck you!” I yelled at the TV, “I like it because it’s a fun, funky Motown throwback.”
But a quick mental review of my iPod suggests I really do like songs with variations of the word ‘fuck’ in it. Right off the top of my head I have:
Cee-Lo Green- Fuck You!
The Who- Who Are You
Presidents of the United States of America- Kitty
Prince - Sexy MF
NIN- Closer
Dennis Leary- Asshole
I’m sure there are more, I just can’t think of them right now. What ‘fuck’ songs do you have?
Yeah, same here. I’ve got a fair amount of metal songs with lots of use of the word “fuck.”
Cee Lo’s “Fuck You” and NIN’s “Closer” have already been mentioned. I also have Liz Phair’s “Fuck and Run” and the band Fucked Up (album: The Chemistry of Common Life).
Fuck in the title and lyrics:
Wavering Saints “Fuck You, I Have Magical Powers”
The Teenagers “Fuck Nichole”
The Smashing Pumpkins “Fuck You (An Ode To No One)”
The Ponys “I Wanna Fuck You”
The Fallout “Dear Jenny, Fuck You”
The Brian Jonestown Massacre “Let’s Go Fucking Mental”
The Bird and Bee “Fucking Boyfriend”
Swallow “Fuck My Boyfriend”
Nouvelle Vague “Too Drunk To Fuck”
Liz Phair “Fuck and Run”
Cassettes Won’t Listen “Fuck and Run” (cover of the song before it)
Lanemeyer “Fuck You and Your Boyfriend”
Electric Six “Feed My Fuckin’ Habit”
Dope “Die Motherfucker Die”
Dirty Pretty Things “You Fucking Love It”
Dark Meat “Well Fuck You Then”
Catherine Wheel “Eat My Dust You Insensitive Fuck”
Bikini Kill “I Like Fucking”
Fuck in the lyrics:
Nine Inch Nails “Closer”
New Politics “Yeah Yeah Yeah”
Damien Rice “Rootless Tree”
Damien Rice “Woman Like a Man”
Silversun Pickups “Lazy Eye”
Tool “Aenema”
Bright Eyes “Lover I Don’t Have to Love”
Bettie Serveert “Lover I Don’t Have to Love” (cover of previous song)
Shiny Toy Guns “Le Disko”
KoЯn “Freak on a Leash”
Red Hot Chili Peppers “Aeroplane”
Broken Social Scene “Cause = Time”
etc
I have about five or six NIN albums, so I can’t even be bothered to count all the songs. Trent makes good tunes, but his vocabulary could probably use some work.
That being the case, you could always listen to one of the two “clean” versions of the same song. I’ve heard it as both “Eff You” and “Forget You” in addition to the full f-bomb version. All three are by the original artist, not a cover, though covers do exist like the Glee “forget you” version.
Back to the subject at hand though, there’s a song on The Spaghetti Incident by Guns 'n Roses (never ones to shy away from using “fuck” in a song to begin with) which eventually just dissolves into “FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU!” over and over. The whole album is covers, so someone else did it first, I assume.
These are the songs that come up when I type “fuck” into the search box of my iTunes:
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - ‘Fuck Tha Police’
Cee Lo Green - ‘Fuck You!’
Culture Club - ‘Miss Me Blind (David Guetta & Joachim Garraud Fuck Me I’m Famous Mix)’
Eamon - ‘Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back)’
Eminem - ‘Just Don’t Give A Fuck’ and ‘Still Don’t Give A Fuck’
Frenzal Rhomb - ‘Johnny Ramone Was In A Fucken Good Band, But He Was A Cunt’, ‘Fuck You And Your Stupid Band’, ‘I’m A Backwards Fucken Useless Piece Of Dogshit (And I Vote)’ and ‘World’s Fuckedest Cunt’
Kelis - ‘Fuck Them Bitches’
Missy Elliott ft. Timbaland - ‘They Don’t Wanna Fuck Wit Me’
N.W.A. - ‘Fuck Tha Police’ plus ‘Fuck Tha Police (Edit)’
Pink - ‘Fuckin’ Perfect’
Public Enemy - ‘Leave This Off Your Fuckin’ Charts’
Robyn - ‘Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do’
Sam Sparro - ‘You’s A Nasty (Motherfucker)’
Spiderbait - ‘Fucken Awesome’
I couldn’t possibly go through and find all the songs where it appears in the lyrics but it is a lot.
I don’t have many fuck songs on my iPod, but neither song with the word in the title have been mentioned yet: “Go Fuck You” by Hank Williams III and “This Fucking Job” by The Drive-By Truckers. “Oxford Comma” and “Cape Cod Kwasa Kwasa,” both by Vampire Weekend, have fuck in the lyrics.
