I didn’t want to predispose people either way. If you must know, my own view is disgustingly neutral. I think human nature is the same everywhere, regardless of religion or culture.
So far, i’ve learned that there are some good muslims in North Cameroon and there has not been any debate regarding criteria so this might indeed be a better fit for imho.
I’ve lived in Iraq, Afghanistan and Indonesia which are all majority Muslim nations. I’ve also spent time in UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Kuwait. In general, I find that people there live up to their ideals about as often as people anywhere.
Well I for one am glad you brought this up, because every Muslim I’ve ever met has been a raging asshole, and I’ve been looking for a forum in which to let everyone know that that is the case.
Seriously, if I know someone is a Muslim I can be confident that they’re so much more likely to be violent, bitter, and self-centered than any given Christian or Jew (or really anybody else, honestly. Except for Pagans.)
I worked with this guy once who was a Muslim. I had a candy bowl on my desk and every Good Christian came by and asked if they could have a candy bar from my candy bowl, and they only took one. One day I stepped away to use the bathroom, and when I came back I saw the Muslim guy from finance stealing away with all my O Henry! bars!!!
This is all, of course, just based on my observations. I’m not saying that all Muslims are bad, it’s just that most of the ones I know are bad.
I live in an area of Chicago where the majority of the population is Middle Eastern. I’m assuming most are Muslim, although there are a number of businesses owned by Lebanese Christians. So my experience is pretty much limited to being a customer. That said, my experience has been very positive. Shopkeepers and restaurant employees have been generally friendly, polite and welcoming - obviously a big part of running a business. If I were forced to move, I’d search for another Middle Eastern majority neighborhood (and not just for the food).
My gut feeling is that the Muslims I’ve met are more likely to follow the tenants of their faith than the Christians or Jews I know.
