How many of the current Republican contenders are actually running for VICE-President?

Also, how would running against Trump help the secure a spot as his VP? If they do poorly then they are losers who aren’t worth his time. If they do well then they are rivals who dared to challenge his authority and must be humiliated and destroyed.

The only way to get to be his VP is to suck up to him, which isn’t compatible with seeking to replace him as the nominee.

Except for a few exceptions, they aren’t running against Trump. They are mirroring what he says, like a bunch of "Mini-Me"s, and I believe more than one has said they would be pardon Trump. They are telling Trump that, unlike Pence, they would have his back if push came to shove.

Does anyone run for VP ever? I thought the VP was chosen for electoral reasons. For example, why choose Kristi Noem when he has that section of the country’s EVs already locked up when he could chose Brian Kemp and try to steal Georgia (a purple state) or maybe someone out of the Rust Belt like Ron Johnson.

Mike Pence dropped out of presidential campaigning in May of 2015. That made him acceptable to Trump, because he wasn’t in any of the debates saying bad things about him.

Dick Cheney wasn’t running for president in 2000; he was the head of the committee to find a suitable presidential candidate.

Kamala Harris did announce her campaign in 2019. She also announced the end of her campaign in 2019. I don’t think she was in any of the debates.

Tim Kaine didn’t campaign for President in 2016. Neither did Paul Ryan in 2012. Or Sarah Palin in 2008. Or Biden in 2004. They also were never in any debates.

Really not much of a modern history of choosing opponents in the presidential race to be VP. I assume that anyone seriously running would also know this history, and their campaign managers would know it even better.

Biden in 2008 ran then dropped out after finishing 5th in Iowa. His run was not helped by a classic verbal flub when referring to Obama right as he was announcing his own run.

Here’s what Trump said about them on Truth Social.

Maybe he will turn it into an Apprentice-like contest and, of course, fuck them all over at the end. They will do well to remember Romney. They are now on his shit list forever.

I daresay if one of them did land the VP spot, they’d pray every day for him to kick the bucket and make them president.

Yes, types are us.

Biden was always prone to flubs. But your link gives enough context to show that the resulting kerfuffle was as idiotically overblown as any these kerfuffles have been. He also was in 2007 debates but dropped out before the 2008 debates I looked at.

None of this matters if Trump is the candidate. He will do what he wants.

What if Trump isn’t the candidate? We’re still 15 months from the election. Presuming a Trump candidacy is statistically more iffy than presuming a Biden candidacy. The race can blown up at any moment, and the odds are fairly good that it does before the conventions. Nothing any of the announced do is about today. They’re looking at what-if futures. Pressing the flesh and making themselves known to local pols around the nation is for politicians what socking money into IRAs is for us civilians, a sound investment plan.

Trump’s MAGAPAC has created a Vice Presidential Debate page for tomorrow night’s debate. The “about” section for each candidate has a quote from them talking about how awesome Trump is and then “fast facts” about how much they suck. Vote for your favorite!

I despise Trump, but that’s objectively hilarious.

Oh no, the political dynamo known as Doug Burgam has injured himself playing basketball, and so may not make it to the debate.

Some “fast facts” about Christ Christie:

Especially that middle one - maybe he’s not so bad! (Just kidding, I’m sure that was taken out of context and he’d never actually challenge the gun nut wing of the base).

Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis apparently

I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day!

Oh yes she was.

“I’m going to now direct this at Vice President Biden: I do not believe you are a racist, and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground,” she said, looking over at him. “But I also believe, and it’s personal—it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country. And it was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing. And, you know, there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. And that little girl was me.”

The terrible anti-aliasing on Ramaswamy is enough to make my very amateur photoshop skills crawl up in a sad, weeping ball of horror.

But, yes, the site is hilarious to observe, in a weird schadenfreude/pity way.

While that would normally be the case, when you have a primary with one contender so far ahead. My main disagreement is the idea that Trump’s ego would let him choose a VP that might conceivably be considered an alternative or successor to Trump himself (or even someone who had the temerity to run against Trump in any capacity at all).

There is also the fact that Trump is facing several felony trials, one of at which at least, is an absolute “slam dunk” for the the prosecution. Whatever people are saying now, its is really hard to get elected while in the process of getting sent to prison for the rest of your life for illegally giving away state secrets, and that is what most of the GOP contenders are banking on IMO.

Be prepared for Vice-President Omarosa Manigault Newman.
