How many posts until you are taken seriously?

How many posts do someone need before they are considered a ‘real-deal’ member of the boards? Do people look at my ~250 posts and think “Ah, this is a newbie” or is that a respectable number?

Don’t worry, I’m not going to go and post a bunch of nonsense to pad my number. Just curious.

I’ll let you know.

1 post if you are eloquent, reasoned and downright funny. 10,000 if you’re a bit of a twit. It varies, and depends on the poster.

Quality is preferrable to quantity, honestly.

I take every poster seriously. Even the guests.
Of course, with a name like FlippyFly, how serious can you be.

I take almost everyone pretty seriously.

To be honest, I really don’t think that post counts matter much around here. It really has to do more with the impression that you make, and what you contribute. As an example, I have over 2000 posts, but am pretty sure that I am not really on many folks radar. Not saying this for pity or to fish for validation, just pointing out that as far as I can tell the culture of this board is such that most folks pay this little mind. Hell, I can’t remember the last time that I checked a post count stat. I either find value in the post/poster or I don’t.

Helps if you have a memorable user name, too. I think a good number of us unimaginative members become invisibile when QtM, Master WangKa, lieu (among others) come into a thread.

I’ll respect someone on Post #1 if it’s a good post. Lack of respect is usually earned over time after a string of mostly moronic posts.

Haj

A lot seems to depend on where you post as well. If you post a lot in one thread, defending a particular position or attacking another, you’ll probably make more of a name for yourself. I’ve been for three and a half years or so, and I don’t really do much of that, so I doubt many know me. Which is fine, of course. At least that’s what I tell myself to stop the tears at night.
Ooh, one more thing. Proper spelling and grammar can go a loooooooong way.

Beautiful.
I’ve been here for three and a half years or so.

About 1,786, I hope.

Pffft. Yeah, right. :waves hand dismissively:

<nitpick>
“Long” actually only has one “o”. Don’t feel bad, though, it’s a pretty common misspelling.

Why on earth would I want anyone here to take me seriously? :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotta admit, I rarely pay attention to such things. Pretty much the only time I do it is when someone posts something WAY out there. At that point I check to see if they’re a newbie.

But solid, well-thought out statements? Newbie or old timer. Who cares?

Along those lines:

Life is far too important to ever be taken seriously.

Ah, but that’s assuming I meant to spell “long.” In point of fact, I spelled loooooooong, which is actually Sumerian for “rubber baby buggy bumpers” but can also be used as another way of describing the length of something.

That’s a little harsh, isn’t it? I don’t consider myself bile, per se.
