I think the “leave it alone” looks best. Maybe a few highlights would be okay; but don’t go as blond as you’ve done.
Why fight it?
To quote from an on-line profile I recently admired:
“Blondes may have more fun, but redheads are more fun.”

Well, there were “personal family” reasons for not wanting red hair, which, now that I am an adult, are silly reasons, but as a child, if my mother and grandmother said it was bad, by default, it was bad for me, too. My (now disowned for reasons other than this) grandfather had an affair with a red headed woman. That was all we knew about her, and so it became a symbol of distrust and loathing.
Now, I love it I was actually the first in our family to dye my hair back to red, and flaunt it. I was shunned for a while, but then I told everyone, “look. I’m me, not the mystery woman. I have red hair, and I’m not ashamed of it because one red head was a tramp. I’m not the woman who hurt you, I’m me, and I’m proud. Take it or leave it.”
Eventually, they took it.
I did force it blonde this year for something different, but a couple of weeks ago I dyed it back. I just couldn’t stay away. (Besides, anyone notice how much my “blonde” looked like my cat’s “orange”?) :smack:
Mmm - I love red-headed guys! My friends are always on the lookout for me!
I SO wanted red hair when I was little but I’ve grown to love my dark brown (though I do like to dye it a plum hue every once in a while). I’m jealous of you all who don’t have any grey! I just turned 24 and I keep finding a new grey hair here and there. Have been for the last 6 years - bah!

Good for you.
There can never be too many redheads, though I’m awfully partial to brunettes, too. Aw, heck, I just like women, actually.

Yum, redheads. Whether male or female. I love them.
I was strawberry blonde as a child, but my hair gradually darkened to the classic mousy brown. Any attempt to lighten it brings out red, similar to Anastasaeon’s situation. I also get red sunstreaks. I have a very pale complexion, as many redheads do, and I sunburn quickly and tan rarely. When my hair is dyed red, the only real clue that it isn’t natural is my dark eyebrows. Both sides of my family have mainly Irish backgrounds, and redheads are scattered sporadically through the family line, although I don’t think any are alive now.
Bright red until age 2.
At present (40 years) auburn brown, or as the husband put it after five minutes of hemming and hawing: “You’re a redhead in the summer when your hair gets sun-bleached, but in the winter you’re more of a red-brown”. No grey on the drapes (yet).
Green-grey eyes.
The… uh… carpet is multi-colored medium shag (including yes, some grey) and on the straight side, but not perfectly so.
In response to demand for cites.
And a closeup of the eyebrows.
Like many I was really red haired when young, like through high school, and then with age it got more brownish red.
You’ve definitely got the red, David. And your eyes are an incredible color.
I had posted these before in another thread, but here’s my cite. The lighting isn’t all that great (fluorescent) but I think the color show ok.
See how easily this thread changed from a poll into a red head picture thread?
How was I the first one to do that…
IANARH, but I love them. MY old girlfriend dyed her hair red because she knew that I loved it. (This was not some stalker trying to get my attention, we had been together for years.) Her parents made her turn it back blonde…<sigh> Some people just don’t appreciate beauty.
Another natural red head checking in,
and i think that red-haired ladies are the most attractive, but all the ones ive dated were less than even-tempered, so i might start putting some stock in that stereotype about red headed women.
I have recently acheived medium red-brown, according to my stylist, the self and often proclaimed genius Hector, may he live long and dye well!
Sorry, Hector.
It’s true.
Salem, I am mighty jealous of your hair. I just can’t get mine to that length, it’s too damn thin.
Here’s me.
'S not fair! Three out of four grandparents are redheads, both my mother’s siblings and all of their children, and half of my father’s side of the family…why’d I have to get the defective “dark blonde” gene?
Fortunately, Clairol’s “Peruvian Flame” color has helped me to remedy nature’s mistake. Anyway, I think I look more “natural” as a redhead than as a blonde.
I don’t have red hair, but I really really want auburn hair. I’m afraid to do anything permanent though, as I fear I won’t like and I don’t want to deal with the roots. I tried the stuff that’s supposed to last like a month, and it just didn’t take.
Nice arms! Wish I had a pair like that.
Natural redhead here. I’d say mine’s a medium copper, and [tmi]the carpet is even brighter.[/tmi]
Another redhead—a little too red to be called auburn. More coppery, maybe? And blue eyes.
I’m happy to hear about fellow reds NOT going gray early, as my mother insists that I’ll be gray by the time I’m 40. At 27, I’ve had a couple of light, almost blond hairs, but nothing I could really call gray.
My head hair is quite dark auburn, but in summer it bleaches a little and becomes reddish. My beard and body hair is much lighter than my head hair, so much so that I’ve had people asked if I’ve dyed my hair. (No.)
This is what comes of being Scottish/Korean.
I think I’m dating your perfect woman, and I would tend to agree with you.
