Red head thread

I am a red head, I love it.
Who else here has red hair?
Did you get your red hair from a bottle?

Did you hate having red hair when you were a kid? If so, when did you start to like it or do you still hate it?
( I used to hate it, but around the time I turned 13 I started to like it. My step daughter has red hair and used to hate it, she is almost 14 and has recently started to really like it. My son is 8 and hates having red hair. My youngest daughter is almost 4 and has strawberry blonde hair that is beautiful, I don’t think she even cares yet. )

I’m not one, but I’ll be the first to say I’ve got a thing for redheads.

And blondes.

And brunettes.

But each in their own special way.

Red in the head, fire. . .

Never mind.

:shuffles away:

Yeah, redheads are hot.

Of course we are. :stuck_out_tongue:

Natural redhead and proud of it! When I was little it was more of the typical red, but as I grew older it got more copper colored. Now it depends on how much sun it’s been exposed to. Darker in the winter, red-blonde in the summer. And I’m 45 and barely have any gray. I have a LOT of hair, curly/frizzy and long. In my later 20’s til about mid 30’s I wore it short. I’ve gone back to long now and it’s down about to the bottom of my rib cage when dry. The only trouble is that when you have a lot of red hair, people have a tendency to notice and remember you by it. Makes it harder to get away with skipping classes or doing things you don’t want people to remember!
Other than that, I loved it as it was different. Now of course, it’s “in” and there’s a lot of redheads out there. But I can always tell the natural ones. We just cause more trouble naturally!

I Looooove natural red headed women. I feel like Charlie Brown having a crush on the little red headed girl.

Red haired from head to toe. Yes, the carpet does match the curtains.

I hated being called “Woody Woodpecker” and “Red-on-the-head” when I was a kid; but I never hated my hair color itself. Fortunatley my hair was too auburn to be called “carrot-top”.

When I was a kid, I hated having red hair. Strangers pinching my cheeks, getting made fun of at school, etc. As I got older, I learned to live with it, and make it part of my own distinctiveness. I noticed last year that it’s not as red as it once was, and realized that my mother’s redheaded siblings are all more of an auburn now. I’m still visibly red, but I give it a little chemical kick every now and then, just to make myself feel a little brighter. I think my favorite thing is that my eyes are an orangey-brown, and almost exactly the same color as my hair. Gives unity.

My grandmother married a redheaded man, and waited for years to get a redheaded child. Four children, eleven grandchildren, and sixty years down the line, I’m the only one that came out red. Grandma is fiercely protective of my hair color, and always has something to say about it (she’s so emphatically annoying, in fact, that in college, I threatened to shave my head and tattoo “My Grandma Loves My Red Hair” on my scalp). Lately, she’s usually most appreciative of my hair just after I’ve highlighted or reddened a little, and I get the satisfaction of telling her that it’s not my real hair.

At this point in my life (closing in on 30), I can’t imagine not having red hair, and wonder how I ever could have hated it.

Red Head here :::raises hand::: Since I was 15 :stuck_out_tongue:

If you’re a really good friend, I’ll show my blonde roots.

I do. So do my mom and brother.

Of course not. Dye doesn’t “count” in my book. They say imitation is flattery, but… If I dyed my skin purple, I’d still really be white, wouldn’t I?

I didn’t like it when I was young. It’s very confusing; older people tell you it’s lovely, but your peers tell you it’s ugly… I liked it by the time I was in my teens, though. However, I’m not sure I’d want to pass the gene along if I had kids.

Redhead and proud of it, though its not as intense a red color as it was when I was young. Never felt odd about having red hair and as far as I can recall was never really mocked or otherwise degraded for it. Mayhaps a bit of ribbing now and again but nothing that went beyond friendly teasing.
I’ve always been attracted to other redheads, though interestingly enough I’ve never dated one. The woman I married doesn’t have red hair though she frequently dyies it that color (its look very good on her). I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t pass the red hair onto either of my daughters. Both are quite beautiful so I’m not going to complain. I guess, at least in my family, that red hair tends to skip generations.

ROFLMAO I never heard that one before!!

I’m decended from a line of red headed Irish woman - although I’m a brunette - and I have a definite “thing” for red haired men

Totally real redhaed here. I would never dye it. (I was tempted to go platinum blonde during my punk rock days but I had a strawberry blonde friend who bleached her hair and it grew back in brown  ) I’m also the only redhead on both sides of my family (which is mostly Irish and Scot). At my grandfather’s funeral, everyone knew who I was, even distant cousins I hadn’t seen since I was a baby…

Was picked on a lot for my hair color. (my younger brother’s favorite taunt was “girl-with-her-hair-on-fire”, I still tease him about the jibe’s utter lamness :)) I like my hair a lot now that I’m older, it makes me distinctive. A lot of people still ask me if I dye it. I have notice that people think all redheads look alike; people always tell me I look like whichever redhead is currently famous.

I’m kinda annoyed by faux redheads. Dammit, I suffered for my hair!

Oh, and one thing that annoys about my hair is the accompanying skin tone. I hate being so pale and burning so easily. I’ve already had a couple of “abnormal” moles and recancerous lesions. I grew up in Florida and love the beach but it doesn’t love me…

I’m a natural blonde with blonde highlights. I’ve been thinking of getting a few chunks of red in the lower layers of my hair. Is that cool? Or dork?

Third generation natural redhead.

Never got teased, but my problem with red hair is that people always want to touch it, especially old ladies. Hello! Some personal space please?

I have 2 beautiful red-headed daughters - however my husband and I both have very dark brown hair so apparently that makes us a freak family. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked, “Does their father have red hair?”, “Where did they get that RED hair”.

My older daughter, now 11, HATED her hair when she was younger. When someone would comment on it, she said, “I don’t have red hair, I have BROWN hair!”. It is indeed quite red. She’s grown used to the attention. My younger daughter, 7, doesn’t care one way or the other.

Our day isn’t complete anymore if some random stranger doesn’t come up to us and comment on their hair. Yes, it is SO interesting to know that your 3rd cousin and your great aunt had red hair.

And where DID they get it? In my husband’s case, the carpet’s red, but not the curtains! I guess it’s the source that counts!

Real redhead here. It is quite the most lovely shade of dark auburn (a stylist once told me: “This color, you cannot get from a bottle.”) Not carroty at all but nowhere near brown.

I didn’t like it when I was a little kid though – “Annie” was big on Broadway and I loathed being compared to that redheaded milksop. Thank god it’s not curly!

My parents and my brother all have black hair… comes from both Grandmothers.

Count me in - auburn though…

Theory has it, and I’ve heard from doctors and dentists - we tend to feel pain more although most medication doesn’t react that well with us…anyone else heard this?

Very proud of red hair - although am costantly surprised at how many men really are curious as to “whether the carpet matches the curtains” (neat phrase - never heard it before).

I’d think that was cool.

I have natural auburn hair, always loved it because I’m an attention whore, and have been getting compliments on it since I was born. You can’t lose me in a crowd, because red hair is easy to spot. If I had brown hair, I’d look like every other semi-attractive, slightly overweight 18 year old. My favorite story about it is when I was about 10, the woman who cut my hair took a swatch and said, I used to work for X hair color company, and we’ve never been able to replicate this color. And it gives me an excuse to be pale.
