Red head thread

My sister’s hair is an auburn, maybe strawberry blond, I guess. I remember she hated it as a kid. Now, at 40+, I think she has come to terms with it. No one else in the family has even slightly reddish hair. My wife was a redhead for a few months several years ago. She is naturally blond, and the coloring came out [i[very* red indeed. For about 2 days. Then she got pregnant and quit coloring her hair. She’ll go back, I think, still talks about it. And this time she wasnts to keep the more intensely red color, which will mean more coloring and more money, hence we wait, as money is a little tight.

I have dark brown hair on the top of my head and bright red facial hair!

I’m a bottle red head… auburn.

I have brown hair, but with copper and auburn highlights when I get sunbleached. However, I’m mostly Irish and I have the skin tone that comes with that particular ethnicity. So… sun bathing is pretty much out of the question.

I need to re dye my hair brown to cover the red so I can let it grow out and get my natural red highlights back.

Every year it takes longer and longer to get that “natural look”.

*Yes, the carpet does match the curtains. *

Lol!

Another natural redhead checking in.

Red head here!

It was red when I was a kid but turned to a dark brown. Now its red and from a bottle!

I love it. People are always complimenting me on the colour.

I’m a natural redhead who was accidentally born a brunette, so it’s out of a bottle, and has been for so long that I have no idea if my hair is grey yet or not. I don’t lie about it, but I get round the carpet and curtains question by shaving the evidence.

This reminds me of playing “truth or dare” in the park at 5am.

One of my friends wanted to know if “the carpet matches the curtains”.

Ah, the good old days! (Okay, so it was probably less then 2 years ago)

Brown hair, brown eyes here.

But I have very fond memories of two particular ginger-haired British lads. Yum.

It’s funny you mention this, because I was told by a coworker just last week that he had read some article stating that redheaded females have the highest pain tolerance, on average. It’s been my experience that this is true, I’ve had my dentist marvel over the fact that I drove over to the office and waited patiently while most other people would have passed out from the pain. Both I and my fellow redhead friend are extremely susceptible to spice-burns, though. Neither of us can eat anything remotely spicy without ill effects, usually involving a swelling of the tongue.

And I’ve heard that carpet/curtains question so many times, it doesn’t even faze me anymore. Although I didn’t like it too much when an old friend used to refer to me as “fire crotch”.

What I’m curious about, though, is that strangest of all creatures–the redhead who tans. Are there any of you out there? How in the hell does that work? Five minutes in the sun and I’m burned. Twenty minutes and I’m a lobster. An hour, and somebody better call the hospital. I’ve had burns so bad that I was literally purple, or even that crusty brown that an unidentifiable overcooked roast gets when you leave it in the oven for too long. The sun is my enemy. Are there any of you who actually enjoy sunbathing?

I find this to be true as well. I tend to have a very high threshold for pain. Although, I bleed forever, if cut or poked.

Never had a problem with spicy foods.

I haven’t been bothered by this question in years. Being a smart ass, I usually ask them if they want me to prove it, then say something like, “oh, darn, I forgot I shaved today, guess you’ll never know”

My son gets a to be very tan in the summer. He must get his ability to tan from his dad, becuase he doesn’t get it from me. I have sunblock stashed all over the place. I have been burned so badly so many times. I remember one time when I was about 5, I was so bad my mom took me to the hospital. I had giant blisters on my shoulders and back.

Not me, Draelin. SPF values on sunblock tells me how many minutes it will allow me to stay in the sun.

It’s the opposite that’s supposedly true (cite) although I’ve never noticed mcuh difference. My lower back tattoo took over three hours and while the pain was irritating, it was bearable. And when I broke my foot, I didn’t realize it until I was forced to go get X-rays. And I adore really hot Mexican food and eat jalapenos raw…

My stock response is usually “Too bad you’ll never find out.” And I had a former boyfriend call it the “clown (alliterative word which is very crude and I can’t bring myself to type even with astericks)” which was cute only in context.

I loooove being in the sun and it’s toasty goodness…for maybe five minutes. And then I can feel the burn start. I’ve been burnt so bad I’ve actually had blisters. I don’t think redheads who tan really exsist.

I guess I have a superpower after all.

I’m a natural redhead. My great-grandmother and great-grandmother were both redheads, and there are redheads all over that side of the family. Most of us have straight bright red (but not carroty) hair that doesn’t darken with age. As far as I know, most of us have no problem with the sun. We are dark-eyed redheads, however. Our ancestry is Hungarian/Russian Jewish. I’ve met quite a number of other dark-eyed Jewish redheads who can tan.

I don’t enjoy sunbathing, but I can stay out in the sun for an extended period of time. I rarely wear sunblock unless I’ll be out on the river all day. I have gotten sunburned in my lifetime, but not in recent memory. I don’t get a dark tan, but more of a golden tan that appears very slowly.

I hated it when I was a kid. I didn’t fit in anyway, and it was just one more thing that made me “weird.” I began to like it in high school, when I stopped trying to fit in.

And speaking of the curtains matching the carpet, here’s a story about my great-aunt: We were at the gathering after a great-uncle’s funeral, and somehow we got on the subject of hair color. She was telling me exactly how she mixed up several shades of hair dye to get her gray hair to be close to her original red color. Then she leaned in close to tell me something. At that moment, however, a major lull occurred in the noise of the room, so the private thing she told me was heard loud and clear by all: “But my pubic hair is just as bright red as it ever was!”

Red hair runs on both sides of my family. Unfortunately, the red hair prevelent in the Irish and Spanish blood was overwhelmed by the dirty blonde/brown of the German and French blood.

I still have a weakness for redheads, though. But, being a gentleman, I will *never * ask whether the curtains and the carpeting match. And on those rare occasions I am fortunate enough to discover the truth firsthand…well, let’s just say that all secrets are safe with me.

Ok Homebrew, we want pictures. Full body shots sent to my user name at yahoo dot com.

Yes we do! I have an amazing ability to not burn in the sun. I don’t know why, but it might be because I work outdoors so often.

I’m amazed by the number of people who used to hate their hair color. Is it really that big a deal what color your hair is? Besides, people are always telling me how beautiful it is.

Red hair is awesome. Yeah.

I was born with red hair but lost it very very soon after a few days of being born.

Dark blonde here.

But I do have red whiskers. Don’t know what that’s about - and to top it off the carpet’s a total mismatch as well.

Yep. Red hair. Was blond til I was about 7, then started turning strawberry, then eventually dark auburn. Altho, I do currently cover up the gray…

I am seeing a lot of claims about red hair, but how about some proof. Lets see some pictures!

Not a redhead, but like looking!
