I’m a brunette, but my hair turns dark auburn every summer. My aunt’s hair is about that color now (due to the bottle), but it was redder when she was younger. She also has fair skin, so she gets mistaken for Latina a lot. My cousin (her son) has found bright red strands in his hair (which is naturally black), so it must be hereditary.
As for the tan thing, I’ve got a permanent suntan so to speak :), but I’m pale enough to get watch tans and sock tans, and have to wear sunscreen if I go swimming all day. As for attraction to redheads…the object of my affection all through high school had reddish-blond hair.
I’m a dark eyed redhead, like my father and his father. It was bright copper and has darkened to more of an auburn. I can’t tan, and didn’t even get freckles. Too bad, really. I love freckles.
I hated it growing up, people would not shut up about it. I started dying it rainbow colors and shaving it off when I was 15, didn’t stop til I was 23. Now I usually love it. Sometimes I get tired of comments about it. At least I haven’t had the carpet/drape question lately.
Oh, and if you desire proof, look here.
Definitely not a natural redhead, but I’ve been getting highlights in unnatural colors since I was fifteen. Just for fun. They’ve been scarlet/cherry red/bronzy red up to this year.
Now they’re green. They were blue, but the dye washed out, and they faded to a freaky pale green. I look like an anime character. And my Asian-fetish friends have been giving me odd looks…
I’m going back to red as soon as possible.
In my books, redhead = very sexy.
Especially when hair is cut short, not unlike the chick in the new Axe Pulse advert.
Excuse me, I have to go now…
True red head checking in.I have always loved being a red.
As a child, I was a platinum blonde. As I got older, my hair got darker. By the time I was 15, it was a medium brown, with some auburn highlights, which I loved. I used to put henna on my hair to bring out the auburn more. Then, when I was about 21, I started going gray  and henna over gray looks very strange. When I was 24, I finally took the plunge, and went red from a bottle. My mother had a fit! She said “I always prayed I’d never have a red headed child, and look what you’ve done!!” (She was pure Irish, so I guess she had reason to be concerned about the red hair). I kept dying it until about two years ago, when the gray started coming in silver, and I decided to let it go natural. A couple of funny stories though:
On our honeymoon, an older woman came up to me, and said “What lovely hair! You so seldom see natural red heads” I said “Thank you, but if you like it that much, I can tell you what bottle I got it out of, and you can have it, too!”
Just a couple of years ago, I went into the bank; we were in there a lot, and the tellers knew us. One of the tellers said: “May I ask you a question? How is it that you have red hair, your husband has black hair, and all of your children are blonde?” My husband said this was rude of her, but she just seemed genuinely perplexed, not like she was implying anything was amiss. So I explained to her that hubby and I were both blonde as children, his darkened to (almost) black, and mine darkened to brown, but was red with a little chemical help!
My hairdresser says that red is so popular, because, unlike blonde or brunette, anyone can pull off some shade of red, no matter what their skin tone.
Natural red. Bright brassy orangey red.
Yeah, that’s me, too. I have dark brown hair. But when I grow a big Grizzly Adams beard the hair on my chin comes in bright blonde and bright red. Just there…no where else.
Weird, eh?
My dads hair is black. (Well, it’s getting a little white now actually) But when he grows a beard it has bits of ginger in it.
One of these days I have to put up pictures of me in regular clothes. sigh
I have brown hair, but a red beard. Can I hang with the cool people in here?
No need, Draelin. The Renaissance garb does you justice. And vice-versa.
OK, now I feel compelled to prove I’m a real redhead too. (plus this is finally a good excuse to be an attention 'ho and post a photo ) link
TeenSthrnAccent has red hair. It’s strawberry gone darker as he grew older. His facial hair is even darker red than the hair on his head. He’s on spring break and letting his chin hair go at the moment. I’m having to resist the urge to tell him it makes him look like Shaggy.
I think he’s always liked his hair color, but not always liked the nicknames and such that came with it.

Of course our tolerance for pain is high, when you go through your childhood and teens with red hair, and let’s not forget grandma… Well let’s just say that the emotional pain outweighs physical pain. Dental visits are painless, and I actually can deal with a needle drawing blood from my arm, doesn’t freak me out at all.
I’m Auburn. But I’m two toned as well. My eyebrows are brown, my eyes are brown, and my facial hair is brown. But my south regions and head hair color is auburn. When I shave my hair, some say it looks like velvet, and so the grandma types love to feel it.
I prefer redheads above all else.
Most sexy…but theres so few of them .
My hair color is a lighter (and much more mottled) version of LunaSea’s hair.
(Un)fortunately, my hair loves to change its own color… right now my hair follicles are duking it out between a light strawberry blond color, and a deep auburn. It’s not just from the effects of the sun: some of the strawberry blond is cropping up on the back of my head, where it’s protected from the sun by the hair further up! It’s kinda neat, looking at my hair under a microscope: with dyed hair, you can see the layer of dye over the hair shaft. With my hair, you can see the color slowly (and sometimes not so slowly) changing along its length.
And no, carpet doesn’t match the drapes. Never has, never will so far as I can tell. (Which looked rather odd the time my hair decided that it was going to be platinum blond… my eyebrows are deep brown/nearly black, and always have been. The hair on my head, on the other hand, has never been anywhere near black, with the exception of maybe two hairs.)

natural red head here. when i was a child it was a horrible carroty orange color. i hated it! i think i started liking my red hair when i hit my 20s, by then it had darkened to an auburn – very nice. i never realized i had acquired a certain vanity about it untill i started finding a few grey hairs preference by l’oriel is a wonderful thing!
I was born a redhead–when I was small, I had a head full of bright, coppery red hair. By the time puberty hit, it started to darken, when, by the time I finished high school, it was more of a medium-brownish-auburn. That’s when I started to hit the bottle and color my hair. I kept it copper red for years, then would switch around to different shades (even a bright Crayola red one time, for the hell of it). Finally, I chopped off my hair a few weeks ago, to cut off all the damage wrought from years of processing. I’m letting my natural grow out, because I really haven’t seen it in a long, long time.
There’s grey hair in there!
