A few nights ago I got up, literally, 6 times to urinate. I decided I had to do something about it, so I stopped drinking all fluids after 7:00 and have felt the calling just twice each of the last two nights. Admittedly I drank a lot of fluids the evening before the 6-timer.
I’ve come to grips that twice a night is the best I can hope for. Even that annoys me.
Male 65. Varies a lot. Sometimes not at all, mostly once maybe twice and sometimes several times. I think before my mid-50s it was a rare event, usually preceded by lots of alcohol, for me to wake up at all to go to the toilet. I don’t drink alcohol now.
I don’t turn on any lights and try to stay half asleep, so I don’t find the process very intrusive.
Almost…60…ish…male. Generally I get up 1-3 times. 1 time for me, 1-2 times for our male pug who loves to go out into the yard at night and pee on stuff. If I’m lucky, sometimes I can coordinate the pee runs so that he can go pee on the bushes while I hit the head.
Last night I did get up once with the toddler (grandson, who along with his mom lives with us) and once with the dog (who did need to pee). This sort of thing does happen more often than I’d like. So I’d like to keep it at “rarely.” Thanks.
47, male - usually not at all. Maybe once every other week, I’ll get up once. It’s not at all uncommon for me to sleep 5-6 hours and wake up needing to urgently pee. That accomplished, I’ll usually decide it’s not worth going back to bed.
Two years ago, prior to getting my CPAP, I was easily in the 2-4 times a night range.
Male, 54. I rarely do. If I go to sleep too quickly after 2-3 beers (pretty much my max) I might have to get up, especially since I will have also had at least an equal amount of water.
Only if I drink beer at night do I wake up in the middle of the night with an urge to pee; sometimes I get up to relieve myself, but most of the time I just switch positions and power on through til morning.
I’m male, 67. Go get your prostate checked, seriously.
Twenty years ago I found myself peeing about every two hours, day and night. I went to a urologist who put me on medication. Now I get up once during the night to pee.
Of course, I stopped drinking alcohol and don’t drink caffeine after dinner, just like he told me to, but in the long run that a small price to pay for Once. A. Night.
(Twenty years ago, the urologist said, “This should help for several years, but eventually we’ll have to talk about a ‘procedure.’” He admits to being surprised.)
Usually once in the early a.m. like 4 or so. However, if I took any steps to limit my fluid intake in the hours before bed, I’d sleep thru the night. Male, 39.
I carefully calibrate my fluid intake so that I can go the entire night without peeing because I’m the kind of sleeper who, once I wake, may never fall asleep again. Even if it’s 3 AM or 4 AM. Learned that the hard way. So I generally try for no night bathroom trips.
