Male 61. Once, always very close to 4 am. A few times in my life—probably fewer than 10—I’ve slept all the way through.
I’m uncomfortable going back to sleep unless my bladder is empty, so the first night in an unfamiliar bed, or if disturbed during the night, the count may go up to 3 or 4 times.
I’m 49. I rarely have to, and it will be a maximum of once in a night. There have been times when it seemed more common, e.g. five nights in a row needing to, and I figured that was going to be the new normal, but for whatever reason that period passed and now it’s back to how it’s always been.
I currently wake up to pee maybe once every two weeks on average.
Male, age 54. I’m diabetic (though my blood sugar numbers are in good control), but the only time I ever need to get up in the middle of the night to pee is if I’m feeling sick, or had a lot to drink the night before.
Meanwhile, my wife (age 56) isn’t able to sleep for more than about 2 hours without waking up to go to the restroom. As she has trouble getting back to sleep, it’s a major hassle for her.
2 or 3 times. I take a diuretic for my blood pressure, among other things. Yet a doctor wants me to stay hydrated. Except for the time upon waking, I generally go often but not much volume.
My father experienced the same symptoms as the OP. He never went to a GP, just a cardiologist who never checked his prostate… He should have. Got it treated and died with it, not of it.
m 43 once sometimes twice depending on if I drink a soda before bed and how early/late i go to bed … but I had an operation when I was a kid that makes me go a lot… I used to take Ditropan for it
I wake up every 90 minutes but not due to the need to pee. I might pee once or twice a night while I’m awake. I do drink a lot, like 4-5L of tea/coffee/water/soda a day.
Male, 73, diabetic. I rarely sleep more than 3 hours, usually less, and always pee when I wake up. Sometimes I pee once, and then again 10 minutes later. I have to drink a lot of fluids due to kidney damage.
I very rarely get up at night to pee. If I happen to wake up for other reasons, after a while I will notice the need to pee, but peeing is not what wakes me up.
However, I have noticed that when I am visiting some family member who keeps their house colder than ours (which is pretty much all of them), I get up lots of times to pee. It is quite remarkable what a difference a few degrees makes.
Male, 61. I manage my gout through diuresis. I drink beer and eat many foods that they tell me not to eat. I’ve now gone years without a gout attack just by drinking huge volumes of water every day. I wake up a minimum of once a night to pee, more often twice, sometimes thrice.
Almost always once per night. My normal wake-up time is between 4 & 5am, and if I have to pee anytime up to, say 2am, I can go back to sleep with no problem as long as I don’t turn on any lights. Unfortunately the bladder often calls around 3-3:30, so my body tells me “close enough, you’re up for the day!”
Male, 53. Rarely. I do have an enlarged prostate, and I do really need to piss when I wake up, but I usually don’t wake early because I need to piss. I usually drink very little fluid for the last 3 or 4 hours of my waking day, that seems to help.
