How many US dopers have heard of Robbie Williams?

He has sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist in history.

I know the name and I know that he is a British musician and that’s it. I don’t know what style of music he plays and I’ve never heard any of it (that I know of).

Sorry. Forgot the links. My favourite video Robbie Williams falls over on stage at leeds
Best ever 8 minute live song

He’s the guy that wrote that ‘‘Milennium’’ song, right? And also that ‘‘Back for Good’’ song.

I’ve heard of him. I think of him more as a one-hit wonder than anything else. (Okay, two-hit wonder, but my point is, not exactly a superstar here in the U.S.)

He’s a pop singer from a boy band(Take That). Think the UK’s version of J. Timberlake.

This song is probably the one that gets most play in the States as I’ve seen it used as backround music on lots of TV programs. => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RxuPiHGj0o

His biggest hit which I think was also a hit stateside was Angels. => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzmZWMTadvY

I think he is the most successful music artist ever to have not cracked the USA market.
He has had 6 number 1 singles in the UK and 8 number 1 albums.

BTW the look of him in the first link is not to be taken seriously. He takes the piss out of himself quite a bit and that video is all about taking the piss.

“Back for Good” is a Take That song. Written by Gary Barlow. Robbie was a member back then.

I’ve heard of him. Back when I was a tween and buying all those stupid girls magazines, I used to buy a British one (forgot the magazine name though) and it had lots of stuff about him, David Beckham, etc. I also used to watch MTV back then and remember seeing him a few times. I’m not really into pop music though, except for Justin Timberlake

Yes, I know “Milennium” and that he was a member of Take That, and that he shagged (that means f**ked, right?) Madonna, but that’s the extent of my knowledge. Oh and I think he was on Cribs several years ago.

I’ve heard of him through the SDMB, but other than that, no.

Granted, there are probably a lot of American acts I’m not up on, either.

I’ve heard of him, but know nothing of his music. I’m not really worried about that either.

I really like the song “Millennium”. I think that’s all I’ve heard by him, though.

Is he the

I hope I’m old before I die
I hope I live to see the Pope get high

guy?

I know him, have an album of his. To be fair, I was studying abroad in London when Angels came out - which was a HUGE hit (and an amazing song, I was so glad David A. sang it on American Idol) and you couldn’t NOT know who he was over there. Then I came back to the states and no one had ever heard of Angels or Robbie before. It was actually a little disorienting (disorientating? now I’ve confused myself).

My English flatmate used to make fun of my accent - apparently it sounded like I was calling him Rabi Williams.

I’ve heard of him but I’m a raging Anglophile. My favorite thing he’s done is his singing on 1 Giant Leap’s "My Culture".

I know him. I used to listen to Virgin Radio a lot. I think the main reason he isn’t big in the states is that he goes by “Robbie”.

I do, I even bought two of his CDs (Escapology and The Ego Has Landed). I don’t recall where I heard about his music, perhaps here.

I remember seeing him on MTV Cribs and a few music videos.

I know of him, but only because my British husband gave me a CD with some of his songs. I think he is largely unknown here.
