How many US online gamblers are there?

I’m writing a little piece to debunk parts of Charles Murray’s editorial in the NYT today. He says there are 23 million online gamblers in the US. Anyone know where I can confirm that?

Here are a bunch of statistics. None, seems to match the 23 million (which seems absurdly high to me).

This cite estimates it’s even lower.
