So I went over to the state website to check the latest sample ballot, just to see if there were any surprises.
The only surprising thing is that we have no referenda or proposals at all this year, every vote is for a person(or two at once in the case of POTUS and VPOTUS obviously) to a position. We are having more issues getting voted on off cycle now for whatever reason, and nothing left for the main card. We are also going to miss the entertainment value of some ridiculous self-serving plan getting smacked down with 95% “No” however.
Anyway there are only 35 of them this year. Much smaller than usual, one time I had 70+ separate items to vote on.
51 in the City and County of San Francisco. It’s actually more because we have a number of offices like Board of Education and College Board where you can select up to four people. Also many of the Propositions on both the state and local level have counter-propositions, where someone got a measure on the ballot, and the opposition decided to submit their own measure to confuse the issue. I’m just happy that I’m an absentee voter and already spent a day filling it out. I wouldn’t want to be in line on Nov. 8.
20 offices and one local property tax levy. Nine of the offices only have one unopposed candidate, though, so there are only eleven to actually vote on.
Federal: Pres, Rep
State: State senator, state rep (I have had more flyers about state rep than all other races combined), constitutional amendment (eliminate legistlators the ability to set thier own pay), ~19 judges
County: Commisioner, 4 soil & water district supervisors
City: Mayor, Council member (pick 2 out of 3 running), School board (pick 4 out of 7 running), school district revenue referendum
Fed: Pres, Senate & Rep.
State: State Rep, retain or remove 4 supremes and 4 regional court of appeals judges. 5 constitutional amendments.
County: elect several judges and several minor board posts (soil conservation, etc). 2 proposititions.
City: Nada.
Came to two sheets of paper printed fully on two sides. All printing in English, Spanish, and Creole.
Just by coincidence, we have municipal elections here in Saskatchewan this week.
I’ll be voting on the mayor, the councillor for my ward, and the member of the school board in my division.
That’s it. Fill in the dots and feed it into the scanner and I’ll be done. Since voting is low for municipal elections, shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes.
