How much are movie tickets your way now?

$6-7 for matinee; $9-10 for general admission

Carlsbad, CA
Paid $9.50 to see LOTR general admission

$8 for general admission, $6 for students, $5.50 for matinees.

OKC, OK

$7.50 eve, $5.00 matinee.

That’s for the nice theatres with stadium seating and good sound, whether at the mall or not. We also have a couple of places that get the flicks after first run but before video. They show for $2.50, all times.

I win, I win (so far).

There are a few theaters around here (Portland, ME) that all charge $8 – $6 matinees, but then there is The Nic.

The Nicelodeon Theater downtown used to show second run movies, now they’re showing first runs, but their prices haven’t changed:

$6 - $4 Matinees and Tuesday nights.

The drawbacks are that the theater hasn’t been improved at all in about 15 years. The seats are falling apart, the bathrooms are disgusting, the place generally has a funk about it and the heat is wonky. I’ve never gone to a movie there where I’ve not frozen or broiled – there’s no in between.

Also, you have to pass a credit check to buy popcorn.

But still – $4 on Tuesday nights!!

I hate to break your heart, but the local cinema charges 5 rupees. That’s around a dime. OK, travelling 12,000 miles to save a few bucks is a little extreme, but when you’re in some remote area of India, there have to be a few advantages.

Ah, for the joys of small town Ohio.

Here in the lovely town of Bluffton, we have the wonderful (but admittedly tiny) Shannon Theatre.

$3 for adults, $2 for kids. But the beauty of this system is: The “kid” status officially cuts off when you’re twelve. But that’s only if you come alone. If you bring a parent, no matter what age you are, you still get in at kid price.

When Fellowship of the Ring first came out, IIRC the Shannon got it the day it was released to theatres. First runs are a bit of a rarity, though.

I win, I win, I win!!! (so far, at least in the States…)

$3.50 matinee
$5.00 evening
$1.00 Tuesday nights!!!

Smalltown Texas - about 65mi NW of San Antonio…

I should bow to literatelady I suppose, but let me clarify:

We get first-run movies and our moviehouse is a multiplex (ok, only 6 screens, but hey…there’s only 24k people in this town!)

AND - we have THX in one screen and Dolby surround in the other 5…

…and oh, yeah…Kids under 12 and seniors over 50 - $3.00 all showings…

Another small town in Texas:
$4.50 a ticket. However, the local theater does not have matinees. Show times start at 7 p.m. with one showing on weekdays and two on Saturday and Sunday.

A fairly major UK city (the UK’s 2nd city in fact), I pay about £3.80 at the big UGC in town.

$3.00 for everyone. But then, we don’t get movies usually for about 4 months after they come out, and they only play for a day or so.

That’s only on base, too. Off base they’re anywhere from $15.00 to as high as $30.00, depending on where you go. But that’s Japan for you.

NY, NY…

$10 every show… all the time.

There’s a couple of places around Manhattan that have lower prices for second runs (i.e. the Lowes in the Basement of the Times Sq. Virgin Megastore).

… it’s a helluva town

Mostly I go to the Reading cinema in Auburn and pay either $8.50 or $9 ($6 - $6.40 US) depending on which special deal I’m using. Full price is $14.

Damn, some places are expensive. Just north of DC, I pay $8.50. I don’t go to them much. There is a theater in Frederick where tickets are $3, but they play older movies that have been out a few months. But still it’s $3.

No, I win. I paid $14 to see Return of the King here . Standard multiplex prices are $9.50 / $7.50 matinee (Hollywood, CA).

What do you mean, lower is better?

Small town Kansas - $6.50. Not sure what matinee prices are but I believe they’re in the $4.50-$5.00 range.

$5.25 bargain matinee for the one closest to my house. $5.50 bargain matinee for the bigger multiplex further away. I don’t know how much the regular price is because I prefer the matinee showings.

SEK 80-110, depending on the movie, which works out to about $10.50-14.50.
