How much do you pay for a pizza pie?

Just curious - don’t tip the driver or don’t tip at all? I used to deliver 'za back in college and I knew guys who if they got stiffed on a delivery would remember and give you <ahem> ‘extra sauce’ the next time they delivered to you. <shudder>

Depends on what mr.stretch gets…I get a 10" two-topping pizza for 8.95.

I won’t eat chain pizza anymore. I either make it at home, or we go out and have real pizza.

Correction, it’s Papa Murphy’s, at least in my neighborhood. PM doesn’t even have ovens, all pizzas are served raw.

I knew it was someone’s papa.

$16.95 get me a large (16") cheese pizza that’s edible.

$10.95 gets a large cheese pizza from Pizza Slut.

Unless I get an online deal, we generally spend between $20 and $25 for two large pizzas from Papa John’s - usually one specialty, and one mushroom with extra cheese. And I go pick it up.

There’s a place called Pizza Hotline - a local joint - no idea how good or how expensive they are. I may try them next time.

I get pre-made pizzas at the grocery. I usually get a 15" pepperoni (8.99) and stop by the salad bar in the store and fill one of thier salad containers with mushrooms, ham chunks, onion, green peppers, black and green olives and extra mozzarella cheese to doctor up the pizza when I get home. The pre-made deluxe pizza has some sausage on it that I don’t care for so I go the do it yourself route.

Costs me around 13-14 bucks depending on the weight of the toppings I get from the salad bar and feeds me for 2-3 days.

Take and bake from Papa Murphy’s, veggie with extra topping, biggest size: $13.

I am amazed people still use the phrase pizza “pie”.
Haven’t heard anyone say that since the late 1950’s.

You can order a pizza (pie) here for about $12.00 for a medium pizza, but with a coupon (sent regularly by mail) you get two dollars off, but still, with tip and tax, about $13 to $15 for home delivery.

Nobody tips anybody (well… we do still have free will and it’s not against the law or anything. Most people* will act weirded out if you tip them because it’s unexpected and they dont know how to react). Our minimum wages are higher so tips are not required to make up the difference. I doubt any pizza delivery boys would commit payback with your pizza if you didn’t tip because it’s the exception rather than the rule.

*I’ve noticed in Melbourne some places are starting to put out tip jars, and I assume this is thanks to tourism and the influence from American tv shows and movies. I don’t believe in playing along - it’s a system I never want to see implemented here. I’m quite sure the same waitstaff who are putting out tip jars are not prepared to sacrifice part of their wages to really come into line with their American counterparts.

The PizzaExpress restaurant chain starts its pizzas (thin crust, individual size) at a little over £5 for the basic cheese-and-tomato version, and they top out at around £8. The company that owns PizzaExpress also owns two similar chains called ASK and Zizzi; I regularly get takeaway pizzas from the ASK outlet on Baker Street across from the underground station, which charges only £5 or so for any pizza on the menu if taken away. Home delivery is available from Domino’s and Pizza Hut as well as many independents.

Last night I ordered a large pizza with everything, a medium veggie with everythig and a medium sausage, tomato and mushroom.

It was $60 before tip.

Holy crap! What kind of veggies? Truffles and morels covered with saffron?

College towns are great.

The very best local place in town is a bit on the expensive (for here) side. I usually get one of their combo deals: Medium pizza, one topping, two 20oz. bottles of pop for $9, or Large pizza, one topping, three 20oz. bottles of pop for $11. I usually go pick it up, so that’s without a tip.

There’s a hole-in-the-wall local place that mainly serves the drunk crowd at nights after the bars close where you can get a “slice” (amounting to about 1/4 of a smallish-medium pizza) for $2.

We also just had a Gumby’s Pizza move in. They’re in a lot of college towns. The pizza (IMO) is mediocre, but they have “Pokey Stix” which are basically breadsticks with garlic and cheese, and they’re delicious. Gumby’s has a lot of coupons, and their pricing structure is a bit confusing, but you can get a large (either the pizza or the Stix) for $4.99 or an extra large for $6.99. If you want two, you can buy one at regular price and get the other one free. And they have tons of combos and mix-and-match deals as well. They also offer a 20-inch “wagon wheel” pizza for $15.

We have, near as I can tell, four local places or regional chains, and three or four national chains here.

Large pan pizza and large stuffed crust, both with two toppings: $28, $33 with tip. And that feeds two adult(ish, 18 and 47) males for two days.

You aren’t too far off the mark…check out this story of the most expensive pizza.

I live in Switzerland where restaurant food is pretty expensive. The average pizza is CHF 20, which is about $17 (and $20 for my favorite with parma ham, gorgonzola, and eggplant). Pizzas here follow the real Italian style, one pizza, one person, you eat it with a knife and fork, and you finish it in one setting. I guess they are about 14 inches in diameter with a thin crust.

I had always loved the NY-style pizzas, but just wait until you eat one of the Swiss/Italian ones – heaven on a plate!

As **cazzle ** said: certainly no tip for the driver. He’s already being paid to deliver the pizza to my place. In general - tips are paid to recognise and reward very good service. Basic service, such as delivering a pizza or bringing food from the kitchen to the table in a café, doesn’t get any reward. It’s already factored into the price of the product.

$18-something for a large stuffed mushroom, pick-up from Giordano’s.
8 big pieces - 2 are plenty, eat 3 and you’re stuffing yourself (not that I never have!)

I go to Joe’s Pizza and Pasta, a good NY style local chain, and get the carryout special - 2 X-Large cheese pizzas for $17.99. I add pepperoni to one of them and it comes out to around $20. And these are pretty big pizzas, so there’s more than enough for lunch the next day.

Standard shit…onions, peppers, tomato, mushroom, olives. I’m still rather speechless. The pisser of the whole thing is that no one ate much, so I sent about 50% of it to work with Mr. K so he can feed his co-workers.
