How much do you pay for a pizza pie?

Large pie from our neighborhood pizza place: $9 plain, $2 for each topping. $14~ for a specialty pizza such as the delicious Greek pizza (feta, tomato, kalamata olives, onions, green peppers (I hold those)). I always pick up because they do deliver but it’s right around the corner. Tip would be $3.

We go to our favorite pizza joint every Thursday night, where we pay $19.62 (including tip) for a small Canadian bacon and cheese (“small” is a misnomer–they know us so well at this place that we usually get a medium-size pizza with extra cheese for the price of a small with regular cheese) and two medium drinks.

Mmmm, yummy.

Kal, that doesn’t sound too off - in fact, for three 'zas - 2 with everything and one with three ingredients, that sounds right. Extra ingredients run what - $1.75 per? And larges can start over $25. Mediums get up there too - a medium veggie is $16! (I just looked at a Rosati’s menu for their place in Sycamore - I just picked somewhere in McHenry County) and I can see $60, way way easy.

Me, from CPA, I think (don’t quote me) that a large, sausage (pie cut, well done), delivered (with my free delivery coupon) will run me about $22 - that includes a $5 tip for the driver.

We don’t order out much anymore…

Too expensive.

If we order in, we’ll get a 16" pepperoni for about $14.50 and I’ll give the guy a $2.50 tip.

When we make it. . .probably about 1.00 in the crust, .75 in the sauce, $2.00 in cheese (or more), $1.50 in pepperoni.

A large pizza for me is about $16 CDN, or $14 US.

Plus 14% tax comes in at $16 US. Plus a tip. So we’re probably looking at about $20 for a large pizza, 3 or 4 toppings, delivered.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised. I usually order 1/2 onion, green pepper, & sausage and 1/2 tomato, sausage and mushroom. Also, I don’t eat tons of pizza in a sitting, so it’s actually two days’ worth of food, so I think it’s a pretty good deal.

(I’m a bit disappointed with Rosati’s lately. These pies were ordered from a single restaurant joint here in Cary. It’s the best we have going at the moment.)

Ah yes, have had many a pizza in Switzerland…especially in Ticino (Lugano area)…and though they certainly are pricey, most I had were well worth the money.

I remember the first time I saw the word apizza and thinking, “a- means not, as in amoral or apolitical. So apizza must mean ‘not pizza’.”

My Bridgeport-born & raised mama then told me it was pronounced abeetz’ and when she was growing up in the '40s nobody called it anything else.

Pizza Nova’s about ten dollars for a small one; I think Pizzaville charges around fifteen to eighteen dollars for a large. It also depends on how much I tip the guy at delivery…

Now I want pizza, dammit. scowls at rumbling stomach

Good pizza in Chicago runs around $15 for a large with a couple toppings, maybe more like $25 if you want the Chicago “inch-thick layer of extra cheese” style. My personal favorites are the Art of Pizza and Chicago’s (though there are at least two viciously feuding places that both have that name). Also local custom tolerates a “delivery charge” of two or three bucks, on top of which tipping is still expected.

If I’m looking for something cheap and can’t be arsed getting off my backside, there’s a place near here that does a great deal of a medium pizza (about the same size as a Pizza Hut/Domino’s “Large”), plus garlic bread and coke delivered for $15. (Another Aussie here, so no tip.) It’s enough for two people, or just me in pig mode with a couple slices left over.

If I’m feeling a bit gourmet, there’s a place nearby that does what is simply the best pizza I have ever had, although it’s a bit more expensive. To eat in or have it delivered, they’re about $17 each (although they won’t deliver for less than $20). They also do a pick-up deal of two pizzas for $26. It’s worth it. My favourites are the tandoori chicken with broccoli, youghurt and mango chutney, or the Mexican with beef, tomato, jalapeno peppers, sour cream and corn chips. Yuuuuuuum.
