Well, I guess I’m not the first one to suggest that the waitress hold it between her knees.
Take care of it then, by saying “why should I pay for all this extra stuff?” or asking for your extra stuff in a doggie bag, or just get back on the road and (what I think is reasonable, if you can’t at least get the stuff you paid for), don’t tip the waitress and maybe pull a Bobby DuPea or whatever his name was.
I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the person’s thought process: “I don’t care how much two eggs and toast costs, unless it’s the same as the breakfast special costs, in which case I’m outraged.” Huh?
Not only would I skip the tip, but I would have burned down the diner, sacked the village, salted the earth, and unleashed the very dogs of hell upon all who stood against me. A grim smile would be my mask as I and the two eggs headed into the east, leaving behind us only the anguished wails of those forsaken by their gods.
I think there’s an expectation that the price would be in line with the order, down to a reasonable minimum. We’ve been charged anywhere between $1.50 and $4.00 for a scrambled egg and muffin, which is proportional to platters of about $5 to $10.
He was presumably expecting a price that would be within a reasonable range for a couple of eggs. Not a price that was within a reasonable range for a complete breakfast.
This is a really simple issue.
He asked if he could have “just two eggs”.
The waitress said yes.
And then she served him a meal that was not just two eggs.
I can’t see any way that anyone can spin this as the waitress not being wrong.
My issue in the US was that I only wanted one egg. The grits, hash browns whatever was included were fine but I don’t want to eat two eggs. I might as well have been ordering 50 eggs with the looks I got.
I ran in to a similar situation in Oklahoma City several years ago. The breakfast bar at the hotel was $10.00 (IIRC) but I am a light breakfast eater, so I enquired the price of a cup of coffee and a sausage biscuit. I was told coffee was $1.29, but if I wanted any food it jumped to the $10.00 charge. I had coffee only.
