How much Halloween candy have you bought and how many kids are you expecting?

And… how much do you plan on giving them?

We bought:**

1 Bag of suckers (probably about 150 or so?)
1 Bag of assorted “candies” (smaller ones, like little tootsie rolls, etc)
1 box of 90 chocolate bars (mixed, Nestle assorted)
2 bags of 75 chocolate bars (Mixed, Hershey and Nestle assorted)
… and 1 bag of 26 chocolate bars (peanut butter cups) to be on the safe side (plus, their one of my favorites!)**

We live in a pretty “safe” city of about 45,000. For the last couple of years we’d get about 80-100 kids. However, we bought a new house 1 block away from 2 large elementry (K-6) schools. I expect more… but I am not sure exactly.

I plan on giving 1 chocolate bar, 1 sucker and 1 “candy”. If it doesn’t look like we’ll get about 200 kids, I’ll probably end up doubling it. If the kids look especially cute, I let them pick what they want, too. I usually give my nieces/friends kids a handful.

We decorate heavily so we get a lot of kids - maybe 200+. Their parents were taking pictures in front of our set-up last year. It was so cool. We have about 10 lbs. of assorted candy so far. I will give little kids more than big kids, polite big kids more than not so polite big kids and I will only let them pick if they don’t push wanting to pick.

This is the third year for me in my current home. The first year, I was at my own party and didn’t buy anything. Last year I bought a couple dozen full-size Butterfingers and Baby Ruths and waited for the costume-clad cuties to come rolling in. I got one kid. One. :frowning:
It was quite depressing and I’m not expecting it to be much different this year. I don’t live in a great neighborhood, and it seems like most parents prefer to take their kids over to the wealthier areas for trick-or-treating, with their well-lit streets, intact sidewalks, and high rates of homeowner participation. Considering that any candy not given away inevitably ends up in my own tummy, I’ll probably just buy a bag of blow-pops or something and not get my hopes up.

Where are all the Cornnuts, people? Those were my favorite thing to get when I was a kid. I’m not expecting any kids since I live in a pretty urban apartment building with no kids as far as I can tell, but maybe I should get a bag of mini Twix and Mounds just in case, you know, they decide to knock on my door.

We never got any people at our old house, either. One Halloween two kids knocked on the door and we had no candy at all in the house. My sister ran away laughing and hid behind the door, while I gave the kids a packet of soda crackers.

We are also in our third year, and we live in a neighborhood that draws a lot of kids (not to mention the tons we already have). So I have 8 pretty-big bags of various chocolate items. Usually, we hang out and watch monster movies, take the Kidlet around the block (she’s 2.5), and enjoy all the doorbell-ringing. And eat cake; my birthday is the 31st.

I am bummed, however, because I have gotten myself into a jam. We’re having the wooden floor redone (finally–it’s a mess) and the other night when the guy called to schedule it, I stupidly said that Wed. would be OK, not remembering that this would render our house uninhabitable on Halloween. Argh! I wanna be at home! And what am I supposed to do with all the candy?

I haven’t bought candy yet. I usually buy 3 or 4 bags of the “Fun size” candy bars (Snickers, Milky Way, etc.) and give 2 per kid. Kids who come near the end get 3 each if I have a lot less. Kids without costumes get the cheap candy that my sister buys as her contribution to the candy bowl–the big “misc. candy” bag of gum, hard candy and suckers.

I’m probably not doing Halloween this year. Airman’s going out of town on orders next week, and I don’t feel comfortable opening the door that often, mostly because I don’t want the baby to get sick. It depends on the weather.

i’m also on my third year here. the first year i bought a bag (if it would have been in the 80s in upstate ny i would have bough several, i remember getting more than one paper grocery bag worth back then,) but i only received like 2 parties.

Last year, I didnt buy any, figuring since I dont eat candy myself I wont want to waste it on anyone. I turned off my lights but discovered that people could still see someone was there since my computer monitor was on. so I gave the one party who knocked Mountain Dew cans…I kid you not.

This year I’m gonna try to ignore them again but I wonder how long i will be able to stay in the dark in my bedroom for.

I live on a busy street and trick-or-treating is just starting to catch on here. Which means I have no flippin’ idea how many kids are coming. Last year we had about 15, the year before, zero.

I have a half-kilo bag of assorted small candy bars (European versions of Snickers, Milky Way, Bounty and Mars bars). I’ll probably add a bit, maybe some apples and some little bags of gummy candies. Then I’ll dump it all in a basket and hold it out for the kids to choose.

Flodjunior and some of his buddies are going t-o-t’ing with no adults this year. Snf. It’s a rite of passage, it is…

Well I live in the Washington D.C. area so as of a few days ago it looked like there would be no Halloween around here (because of the sniper).

However it’s 99% certain that they’ve caught the bastards, so we may get a few kiddies after all. We bought about 7 bags of GOOD candy – Snickers, Reese Cups, Hershey Bars, etc. If we don’t get many kids, oh darn we have to keep the leftovers

Mr. Winnie and I go all out and decorate the house up with spider webs, orange lights and whatnot. Even though we live in a very residential area with lots of kids hardly anyone puts decorations up – there’s very little spirit in my neighborhood :frowning: We do have a lot of ethnic families around us - Arab, Korean, Puerto Rican, Indian, etc. so maybe the holiday isn’t such a big deal to them.

We’ve just about given up on buying candy. In the four previous Halloweens since we’ve lived here, we’ve gotten a total of **two **trick or treaters- and that was the first year. It’s rather depressing, but given we live on a highway and there aren’t a lot of kids along it, it’s understandable, I guess. This year I’m going to spend Halloween night at a friend’s house, helping her scare kids since she actually gets trick or treaters.

None. We’re going to try to be elsewhere that night so we don’t have to give out candy.

I live in a low-rise condo building with no kids, and no one ever buzzes my door, which is fine with me, since if they did, I wouldn’t answer.

I live in a small town. I have a brightly decorated yard though so I’ll probably get at least 100 kids from the country areas around my town. I bought 8 bags of the good miniature candy. When that is gone I’ll turn out my light and pray the big kids don’t toilet paper my house

How many kids am I expecting? None.

How much candy? I’ve bought bags and bags!

We used to get kids coming for Halloween, but we live in a strange place. The only way for trick or treaters to get to our front door is through our next door neighbor’s yard. Last year we fenced in another part of our yard for our dogs, so they can’t come that way anymore. Plus, our neighbors moved out last month, so no one will bother coming up that way. The only other way to get to our house (and the way we use) is on another road - and since ours is the only driveway on the whole road, no one bothers to come that way. It’s a long walk for kids to travel to get only one house worth of candy. :frowning:

Even when the way was accessible, we would maybe get 5 kids tops.

I still buy candy - in case my nieces and nephews come by, but the leftovers are mine, all mine.

Since I’ve been living on my own (1997), I’ve had a total of 1 trick or treater. Of course, I’m in a new building/city this year, but I don’t know that there are many kids around where I am.

I may pick up one bag of Reese’s PB cups, but that’s it - I fully expect to not have enough kids drop by to make that worth the money.

This is our firs tHalloween in the condo, so the bf and I have no idea how many kids to expect. the condo management is having a Halloween party for the little’uns on the 31, so there may not be any trick or treaters at all.

And here we are with 1 bag of Sweet Tarts, and 1 bag each of Funsize Kit Kats, Snickers, and Milky Ways.

I’m not expecting many kids to show up at my place. My apartment complex is largely corporate apartments, so people move in and out often, and are mostly young professionals with no (or very young) kids.

I’ll being running a little haunted house at work that day, so I’ll get to treat some kids there–maybe 20 or 25–and I’ll take my leftover candy home in case some t-o-ters show up.

We never buy candy to hand out, even though we get about 30-40 of the little beggers. What I do is, I hand out ice cubes. Little kids don’t care what they get while they’re getting it. They just want to hear that “CLUNK” in their trick-or-treat bag. If they do question it, I just tell them it’s rock candy.
Anyway, what happens is, as they trot down the neigborhood, the ice cube melts, the water saturates their bag, the bag weakens, and the bag get’s a small hole it it.
The next day, I walk down the sidewalk and pick up all the candy that fell out of their bags. Last year I picked up almost 2 pounds of loot!

:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:pI’m kidding! I’m kidding!:p:p:p:p:p:p
We usually only get about 15 trick-or-treaters. We buy 3 bags of gum and lollypops and give out handfulls.
But I bet I hand some of you going with that story!
TRICK OR TREAT!:p:D
