At a typical bar/restaurant/nightclub where you live, what would you say is the average price for 1 drink? Nevermind happy hour or other specials, nevermind what you would tip, nevermind server comps, I’m interested in the actual charged price of 1 drink?
I usually accompany folks who pick up the tab at bars, so it wasn’t until I went to a bar by myself for the first time this week that I realized drinks are freaking expensive. I thought $9 for a six pack of bottles at the store was expensive, but both a beer and a Captain and Coke were $4 and change. And apparently that’s on the low end. Damn.
The places I regularly drink, beers are $5 or $6 and mixed drinks are between $6 and $9.
I’ve been to places here in NYC where a drink is $12 to $18. Luckily, I’m not a very classy dame, so I don’t have to go to those kinds of places often.
I love in a mid-sized city in the south and it varies, depending on whether you’re ordering a beer or mixed drink. I’d say for a beer, about $3 is average, and for a mixed drink $5-$7.
Live in a small city and it’s $3-$5 for a beer (depending on whether you get macrobrew pilsner like Bud/Miller/Coors or a craft/microbrew), and $5-$6 for a well drink.
At my favorite bar I get a great discount and vodka redbull doubles run me about $3 but for the rest of the town it will run about $6. A typical round of 4 drinks will run $20-25 so I went with the $3-5 range but it really varies more then that. Lucky none of the bars have a cover or I’d be pissed about the expensive drinks.
